So, about a month ago I made a mistake and bought a Fabia on impulse and so far it has turned out to atrocious (I know I should have done more research into the car itself).

 

well, I have spent the last 3-4weeks tweaking the interior, removing seats, sorting out all the trim and making the interior a nicer place to be. so I started driving it a couple days ago and I had a few different issues. I will list them below.

 

1) I have an EML and it is throwing an overboost code, the car has a stage 2 hybrid turbo but has yet to be mapped in, I didn't fit this and have no idea how long it has been on the car. could the fact it hasn't been mapped in be throwing issues, the car feels extremely sluggish to have a stage 2 turbo. the car does, however, have a stage 1 map.

 

2) the car's brakes seem to be going hard and locking up after holding them while slowing down, but soon release and go soft again, could this possibly be air in the brake lines or should I upgrade breaks to a bigger brake kit?

 

3) when driving, every now and then the speedo dies and all the lights on the dash are lit up, and the parking brake is flashing, once the car is turned off and back on everything is fine again with the dash.

 

I know these seem like a lot of issues and some people will tell me to just get rid of the car, however, I enjoy working out issues and fixing rather than just throwing stuff away and giving up so I am looking for some advice on these topics if possible.

1) Stage this and that is meaningless, we need to know what model of turbo has been fitted, it seems very likely to me that the actuator linkage has not been set correctly which needs doing before any more mapping.

 

2) Your brake problems sound like a vacuum leak, this will also affect the turbo actuator which uses the same vacuum supply, check ALL the vacuum hoses for leaks and check the NRV to the brake servo.

 

3) This could be a dry solder joint on the instrument cluster cable connector, whip the cluster out and reflow all the connector solder joints on the PCB.

 

Work through this list and report back once complete.

1) Possibly; a larger turbo will push more air, leading to higher boost pressures, which may exceed the limits on the original map.

 

2) This sounds like a vacuum leak to me too.

would it be a good idea to just replace the vac box?

Most brake vacuum problems are leaky hoses.

How would I go about looking for leaks, and you mean remove entire cluster?

Visually check every pipe for splits wherever they connect to a barb and repair or replace, I can pretty much guarantee the brake servo vacuum pipe will have multiple splits.

 

Yes, remove the instrument cluster.

So update, I had a visual inspection over the car and can’t see any visual splits or cracks in the vacuum hoses

Try pulling on the connections, splits can be hidden behind the pipe, if you can pull the hose off the barb then it's split.
