I'm now Yeti-less

Featured Replies

Do you think you have lost out due to the diesel scare?

I am currently planning to buy mine for the residual value at the end of the lease, but if the actual second hand value is less than the fixed purchase price then it will be difficult to justify.

Not really - £7k seemed reasonable, given my car had covered over 80k miles and was due a cambelt / water pump and would undoubtedly need brakes all round within the next year.

The balloon payment at the end of my last PCP was more than the value of the car, but I'd massively (more than +50k miles) exceeded the allowed mileage and I loved the car, so decided to buy it - not my wisest financial decision:sad:

If I did 50k extra miles in mine it would mean a cost of £4K on return!

I was too honest in my mileage estimate of 15k a year but so enjoyed using it did 18k first year!

Seems to be reducing now so I should be about right at end of lease.

It appears my old Yeti has been sold - hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I did:thumbup:

I'm still in a transition period and very much missing my old Yeti. The S Cross is certainly much quieter (and far better equipped - the LED headlights are fabulous) but it lacks a certain character / charm, which the Yeti had in spades.

I'm actually constantly scanning Autotrader for another Yeti:biggrin:

Well I'm 11k miles in and the S-Cross is beginning to grow on me. It really is a very competent package.

MPG is working out marginally less compared with my remapped TDi 4x4 Yeti, although given the fuel is a bit cheaper the actual cost / mile is broadly similar.

The undoubted best bit of the Suzuki is the 1.4 Boosterjet engine - pulls from low revs and is smooth and lively.

I stall haven't tested it out in bad weather, but given Suzuki's reputation for building worthy 4wd's I suspect it'll be fine.

The Suzuki experience has been OK - a free 2k mile check-over and then it's first (9k / yearly) service at £136 - very "old-school" approach, but never was a fan of long-life servicing and used to change the oil on my Yeti in between services.

I still very much miss my old Yeti though💔

..what mpg do you get out of your X-cross....been looking myself!

I'm averaging almost exactly 40 MPG. Mines a 1.4 manual AWD and the best was 47 and worst high 30's.

The biggest irritation for me is the small (47 litre) fuel tank. My old 4x4 Yeti was 60 litres.

I did consider a 1.4 4x4 Yeti, but a combination of high purchase price and lack of availability, along with the the "difficult" interior colour led me to the S-Cross. I purchased it new for around the same price as a 1-year old Yeti l&k.

More here: Fuelly

Hi and thanks for the feedback, mpg similar to my 1.4 Yeti....may have a look at one, although not a fan of the front grill "look" on the later ones...

Thank you.

The what:

A very well-kept 1 owner 2012 170 Elegance. Full main dealer service history (including brake fluid, Haldex and cambelt / water pump) and no signs of leakage from the pan roof🤞

It's in lovely original condition, everything works and driving it home yesterday reminded me of The why.

The weather in the M1 was wet and windy, but the Yeti was rock solid and just shrugged it off.

I called into Costco on the way home and swapped the Goodyear efficient grip tyres for Michelin Cross Climate+, which made an immediate difference to grip, noise and ride comfort.

It unfortunately had the EA189 update August 2017 and I originally planned on a remap, but it goes well enough (very similar to my old mapped 140) so will stick with a roll-back of the update, now it's outside the 2 year /160k miles "trust building measure" cover.

A few minor modifications to start with - dial staging and big MPH display.

Perhaps more importantly the deal was concluded in a friendly manner and it was a genuine pleasure to deal with such a thoroughly decent chap.

It's booked in with a trusted specialist tomorrow, but all indications are it's a good un👍

According to the VAG DPF app the oil ash level is at 50% (@79k miles), which is broadly in-line with the level my mapped f/l 140 was at when I sold it at 84k miles.

Despite being similar in dimensions and sharing a similar drivetrain (manual transmission and four-wheel drive) the Yeti and S-cross are poles apart in how they drive.

The S-cross feels quicker and more agile (despite performance figures suggesting the Yeti is considerably quicker (0-60), whereas the Yeti has better road manners, feels more 'planted' and is somewhat quieter (this could be due to the new Michelin rubber though, as the S-cross has Continental ecocontacts fitted,  which I find noisey and poor in cold / wet conditions).

The Yeti Xenons are admittedly better than halogens, but fall some way short of the full LED headlights in the Suzuki. The bendy lights are pretty good though - I had these on a Lexus I owned some years ago.

Loving the brakes in the Yeti - big improvement on the stoppers in my old f/l 140.

All in all delighted to be back in a Yeti, which I maintain is still the best car Skoda ever sold.

Was the S-Cross brand new? Such a shame to take the hit that comes with selling a 12 month old brand new car.

Getting back in a Yeti makes sense though.

Currently have three cars on the family fleet - S-cross, Yeti and a Mii👍

Couldn't face selling the S-cross - the depreciation would be horrendous😱

Even better! 👍

...just out of interest how do you decide which one of your fleet to take out for a drive? I assume the Yeti and the Suzuki perform a similar function.

Also interested to know how you get on with your Suzuki as I am considering a Vitara 1.4 AWD auto for my next car if and when I decide to change the Yeti...

We've had the S-Cross for nearly a year and it's proved  reliable and reasonably cheap to run (Fuelly link: Fuelly). I've averaged exactly 39.6 MPG over 16k miles, although my car is manual and I suspect the auto may do slightly worse?

The 1.4 turbo engine is excellent and in my opinion is match for the 150 BHP 1.4 VAG unit, despite a marginal deficit in both power and torque. Mine has used no oil in the first 16k miles.

We did consider a Vitara, but the S-Cross was considerably (-£3k) cheaper and has a slightly larger boot.

Suzuki build quality is OK, although compared with a VAG product the body panels are noticeably thinner and the plastics less dense. This leads to more general road noise in the Suzuki, although this is by no means  unbearable.

I'm yet to have the opportunity to try out the Allgrip system in snow, although it's coped with mud and poor conditions admirably. The system is switchable between Auto, Sport and Snow/Mud and there is an ability to lock the system in permanent 4-wheel drive.

As I commented above the Suzuki feels considerably more agile than the Yeti, although has a less "planted" feel on the road. I looked up the relative specifications and see my petrol S-Cross weighs 220 kg less than my diesel Yeti.

The servicing requirements for the Suzuki arer once a year or 9000 miles and a free 2000 mile inspection was included - all little "old school", but probably good for the car in the longer term.

Hope that helps.

Yes - S-Cross and Yeti are similar in form and function, but I'm a 4wd convert and like the traction it affords on the road. The S-Cross  and Mii are the main family hacks and the addition of the Yeti was purely providence (right car / right time) - it was advertised on here. I did also run a petrol S type Jag for a few months, but got bored with endlessly putting fuel in it.

As to which one I drive - multiple drivers at home, so whichever is at the top of the drive👍

It is possible to upgrade the Xenon bulbs in the Yeti, I replaced mine with Osram Xenarc Nightbreakers (D1S bulb type).

Wow - didn't realise how costly the uprated bulbs are. Suspect I'll take the Suzuki if I venture out after dark!!
