Someone hit me...

Featured Replies

....and left no note! Car was parked outside my house. Have asked a few neighbours if they saw anything and contacted some contractors who were in the vicinity. Will probably have to pay for repairs myself but I shouldn't have to :@

And yes, due a clean.

B@hstards.

Check that the boot dent isn’t into the reinforcement bar that sits there.

if that bar is bent it’s game over new boot time and they’re stupidly expensive.

i do know that one of the scrap yards has a black boot lid if you have a search.

4x4 or van I would say, but without proof...

Really!?! Bu**er!

Dent isn't too deep so hopefully it's all ok.  Bin lorry was my first thought. We had our bins done yesterday and there have also been contractors with vans doing work opposite.  These have all been contacted. Apart from the dent it all looks cosmetic. Yet to get on the floor to look behind the bumper. Nice weather today so this mornings job.

Thanks for the heads up.

I would imagine the floor is fine.

that boot section has a skin, then small gap, the a reinforcement bar. Hopefully they can pull it out for you as a new unfinished boot lid is about 450 and a the job is about 1000 without the bumper damage.

good luck and at least the lower bit either will polish out or at worst fix with chipsaway type paint job.

Parts of the damage on the lower part are all the way through the paint so not a simple touch up unfortunately. There is a well regarded paint shop nearby that I have been meaning to visit. Ironically to fix a spot of surface rust on the other end of the boot. If I need to get it all done at the same time then so be it.

That may actually swing it to a new boot lid, but do let us know how it goes.

Cleaned the area up a bit and it's no where near as bad as it looked initially. The paint on the boot is ok and should just need pulling out. The bumper will need some new paintwork and a good polish.

Will let you know.

Know the feeling someone hit me and it cost £1220 to repair. OK I (ONLY!) paid the £350 XS, but I have to have that on my insurance record for 3-5 years, it also meant that I had to pay another £416 for a new insurance policy because the thieving scumbags called Lloyds Bank, AXA & Zenith wouldn't update my insurance for the new car. And those scumbags wanted £700 for a new insurance policy, which I told them to insert where the sun doesn't shine.

So in all reality it has cost me £766 and I don't even have that car anymore!

Had the same, hence the knowing after checking with the dealer and multiple body shops, that if the bar is bent it’s game over.

Sad that people do that and run off. But also tells you the insurance model must be a bit broken as people are so scared of an increase.

on the bumper, I assume a touch up pen done well and accept its dirty isn’t an option?

I doubt it, if you look carefully its got parking sensors in it, so you know temperamental they can be.

Parking sensors still seem to work ok. Intend on 'return to factory' but will accept alternatives if too costly. Would rather not a touch up pen etc but will look at options. The boot is where I'm most concerned due to the rust possiblity. The bumper being plastic is less critical but more damaged paint wise.

Still waiting for a response from serco re. bin lorry and another contractor who was nearby.

My wife's car was reversed into, whilst parked, in a Tesco car park as she was walking back to the car with her trolley full of goods.  That's the only way she knew who did it.

The woman was fully apologetic, said she wasn't concentrating due to her kids screaming in the back, and handed over her details.

However, when it came to claim time, she'd obviously been tipped the wink that if there were no witnesses then to deny liability.

My wife's premium went up by 200% because the insurers went knock for knock.

I guess the other woman's premium went up as well.  Plus the four slashed tyres and paint stripper all over her bonnet she somehow subsequently received would have cost her.

I'm guessing she annoyed somebody else as well.  There are some bitter people out there.

Stay safe people.

Brake fluid is very good & quiet too although, as a Postie I find weedkillering the entire front garden of annoying people gets the point across both quickly & quietly

Apparently getting hold of oily fish oil and popping it down the wiper scuttle onto the heater elements is also quite effective.
