ABS lights coming on intermittently on my Fabia Mk II

Featured Replies

 Hi there.

I’ve got a 2007 Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDi and recently I’ve had a problem with the ABS lights coming on intermittently.

I’ve taken it to an electronic garage and they scanned it but couldn’t find anything wrong because the lights didn’t come on while they had it.

Sometimes it won’t come on for days, or even weeks, but other times it comes on every day.

I have bought a Wi-Fi OBD2  connector and downloaded various apps to use with my iPhone, but none I have found will scan for ABS issues with this model.

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong? There doesn’t seem to be a problem with the brakes as they are working fine but the light is worrying me.

Many thanks in advance,

Kirsty

Needs to be scanned with a proper scan tool like VCDS to see whats faulty.

Okay. Can I buy one of those myself? If so, where is the best place? The reason being, I live in Tenerife and it’s really difficult to find anyone to do anything correctly here. LOL.

Many thanks. Just googling it. I’ll take a look.

Edit: this forum is fantastic.

Probably the commonest fault with abs is one of he wheel sensors. Its finding which one. Also, all four sensors are different so you have to have the correct one to replace. They are quite reasonable on eBay but buy new, not used as why is it being sold?

Yes, this is why I bought the OBD2, in order to find out which sensor was the problem, if it is, indeed, a sensor. I researched the problem on here first, and the sensor issue, whether dirty or faulty, kept on coming up. The problem I have is that all of the apps I’ve tried for the OBD2 do not give me ABS data. I’m not going to buy the paid version if it won’t do what I want! I’m happy to pay for it if it will...

i looked at the VCDS and 199$ is a bit steep. I can’t afford that. Each time I have to take it to a garage it’s costing me 30€ plus the time without my car and unless it just happens to come on while they have it, they can’t guarantee they can find the problem.

Maybe be I should post another thread asking about OBD2 software....

other than this, my Skoda is 10 years old and still going strong with no major issues. I love it.

Maybe Carista would reveal ABS system codes, any Carista  users out there confirm that as I use VCDS but have Carista for reading faults “while out and about” so have not had any ABS system faults to read!

On the Carista website it said that it didn't have advanced diagnostics for the 2007 Fabia... so I wasn't going to buy it without knowing that they're available. If anyone else can either dispute or confirm this, i'd be grateful.

Ah, okay my mistake, I was confused at first but now I can see that Carista did not bother to extend their full coverage backwards - only started at when they launched and give support forwards!   Oh bother, sorry for handing out duff info!

So, back to the drawing board, it would be very handy if you could find a suitable "earlier" full VW Group compliant scan tool being sold on after its buyer had bought newer cars, but how you do that I don't know.  I had a Gendan VAG scan tool for my cars but that stopped working on cars newer than 2008/2009 so I sold it on when my "fleet" became newer!  That one would have handed over the relevant codes for ABS.

@kirstyjay - If you have strip fuzes on top of the battery, have a good look at them, particularly the heavier ones.

It's funny though, because other 2nd Gen Skoda Fabias do have full diagnostic support... Such as the facelift - See the link : https://caristaapp.com/vehicles/skoda/fabia/5jfl

Yes but the time of these cars initial launch came just after Carista started doing all its work to reverse engineer this app, normally with owners of newly launched cars, the issue is that Carista has not had enough time to give full coverage, so starts off from what you saw for your car - and with time catches up and give full coverage.

Just to add to that, you are looking for almost invisible cracks in the bolt in fuse links.

Wasn’t sure what you meant, so I googled it and found this thread. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/432913-abs-warning-light/

I take it this is what you mean. I’ll take a look tomorrow when I’m off work in the morning and it’s light. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, but I don't want to steal @KenONeill's thunder, he made the suggestion first.

Thanks. Didn’t notice that! :D

No problem; My concern was that fault codes from a broken fuze could be narrative like "ABS EMS failed" and replacing the EMS is a damned expensive way to find out that the fault is actually a broken fuze!
