4X4 Estate Spare wheel sizes

Featured Replies

Was there an option to have a 205/60/15 tyre/wheel in the spare wheel well on the 4x4 estate? I would really prefer to have a proper wheel if possible.

Is there any difference in the spare wheel compartment size of the 4x4 estate ? Or will I need a space saver ?

cheers

Ok thanks Silver,  I had doubts regarding the haldex possibly taking some space somehow, just going off ground clearances etc.

Hopefully get a steel 15 inch and tool kit insert, have seen a golk mk6 wheel with tools so presumbly this will fit too.

cheers

The floor pan is the same for the 2WD and 4x4, the transmission tunnel between the rear seats is empty on the 2WD.

Loads of choice on eBay...

Thanks for that,  I'll get hunting....although I am now feeling a little short changed as my wheels are only a paltry 15"...mmm   wondering which tyres are most common and 15" probably aren't.

Aye well, what's an inch..or 2 in the scheme of things...quicker aceleration maybe.

Car does look more jacked up than other 4x4's, guess the small wheels are the reason.

cheers

The 4x4 on 15's looks really capable. A proper 'go anywhere' car.

There are some 15" spares on eBay too, they're just not quite as common.

Depending on age the 15" wheels were standard on the 4x4, with 16's and upgrade and 17's on the Scout if I remember correctly...

Yep - just checked the brochure - 15" Pyxsis were standard

Just spoke to dealer...says it is a different size spare wheel size???

Different to what?

Different to the wheels fitted to the car, or different to the regular 16" spare?

What is printed on the inside of your fuel filler cap? This is the Scout which runs on 17's so the 15" isn't shown...

Here is a genuine MkII Octavia 15" spare wheel fitted with a 195/65 R15 H tyre...

They said looking at the spare wheels offered at the time for this vehicle, it seems the 4x4 will only take upto a 6J rim in depth and the wheel itself is no longer available new from Skoda....I will look for a 2nd hand skoda 15" 6J rim and get a new tyre fitted.

Just picked up the tool kit which is from a mk6 golf, so hopefully that will fit.

Neighbour has an old passat 15 wheel,  which he said to try before I buy a new rim, that has a 205/??/15 tyre on it,  so will give it a go later...he thinks that is 7J so probably wont fit.

It should take a full size spare and they seem to be wrong about the width - the standard 15" rim was a 6.5J x 15 with 205/60 R15V tyres.  Mine has a full size spare 16" 6.5J rim with 205/55R16V tyre.

The Scout had 7J 17's with 225/55/94W tyres.

changed 206 to 205...

The rear suspension set up on th 4x4 isn't any different to the regular Octavia, springs aside.

The genuine Skoda 15" steel wheel linked above is 6J...

Thanks Skomaz & Silver,

Just tried my neighbours passat wheel, which is actually 7J x15 with 205/60/15 michelin pilot....would you believe...

the boot carpet will not sit flat...by at least a good half inch

So I guess a 6J should be ok? But now I think this is what skoda meant...7J rim too big..strange

cheers

If you are worried about the diff / transfer case etc then take off your old wheel and read the size stamped on the inside then buy the same size wheel (width, diameter and ET) and tyre (diameter, width and profile).  If the carpet sits a fraction high then make a packer / spacer out of carpet felt / carpet / styrofoam, etc.  This will quieten the rear of the vehicle as well.

The standard Skoda spare is 6.5" wide with a 205 section tyre on it and it fits with room to spare.

Thanks Brad,

Yes I've ordered a 6J octavia wheel with 205/60/15 tyre. So hopefully this should fit no problem.

cheers

From personal experience whenever I've asked for clarification for something from the dealers reference my vehicle, I ask them to either email their answer to me or put it in writing.

Nearly always their response  changes from what the answer they just told me, to "I'll just confirm that with SUK or SCz!"

Prime example was when I enquired about when should the Haldex Oil be changed (it's not listed in the provided Service Book) , they originally told me 5 (or 6 years)/60k. When I asked them to email it, they confirmed via SCz it was actually 3 years or 37.5k.

No paper. No trail.

Good tip Fin,

Is the floor pan on your Scout the same as the standard 4x4 and what size spare do you have in your Scout ?

Have seen your post, and will hopefully reply tomorrow as I need to check some paperwork to confirm the size, as it's currently blowing a hoollie so checking the boot is not an option at the mo.

Cannot comment on any difference regarding floorplan, hopefully someone more qualified will answer that one.

Thanks Fin

Looking at Scout info I cant find a difference in boot dimensions ..

But 7J rim is too wide/deep for my car...

Im thinking the skoda dealer was just meaning it is restricted height of 6 or 6.5J width....after that it must be a space saver...or repair kit inflator which mine is supplied with.

Would actually really like a full set of scout 17's...and maybe as Brad suggests build a false floor...

Driving into rural switzerland soon and the extra ground clearance would be beneficial.

Cheers

I've also got a 4X4 without a spare wheel...

Assuming it's on 15"s (I can't remember if mine is 15 or 16), will an alloy fit in the well or does it need to be a steely? (Forgive me if this has already been answered above, I have read all the posts but some contain part names etc that I'm not familiar with so not sure if some of them are referring to an alloy, type of wheel or something else).

Cheers!

I'm not sure it matters if its an alloy or a steel ...I might wrong ?

Recieved today a skoda wheel, 6J X16 rim with a 205 60 15 tyre so will try it for size 2mo....I'm sure it will fit along with the tool kit.

From what I can string together guugling etc is even the scouts with 17's only have a 16 as a spare ?? This is classed a s a space saver...this info may not be 100%...just what I've read here 'n' there

cheers

All Octavia estates have the same floor pan, the Scout is no different.

The Scout gets the same full size 16" steel spare wheel as other Octavia's.

These images are from my Scout...
