Agree I averaged 45-47mpg and normal tank (50 litres) was just under 500 miles.

I  average about 46-47 but in a non-vrs 2.0tdi with bluespark.  I know this thread is aimed at petrol vrs's but its interesting to see the comparison with vrs vs elegance (in my case).  A mate has a tdi vrs on similar miles as mine, although a year older, and he seems to get similar mileage to me.

If a diesel and petrol of the same power- - you cannot really compare 184hp Tdi to a 245hp TSi, hardly like for like -  were driven identically along side each other the difference would be about  3 - 5 mpg. Eg a 1.5 tsi vs a 2.0 tdi, both 150hp.

I am seeing diesel 12 ppl more than petrol around here.

But does ECO mode actually work and save MPG? Anyone worked it out? Thanks.

I think Eco’s  actually been hurting my Average MPG but I persisted using it for quite a while because rationally with the hills I regularly let it coast down it “should” have been more economical! Gone back to Normal mode again for the time being and may be driving from Cornwall to Glasgow next week, so a chance for a good look at long distance trip MPG

do you live at the top of a very long downhill stretch of motorway?

sorry but i cant believe that for a second.

This forum, for some reason, does seem to suffer from a disproportionate number of what I call "fanboys".......they get 50mpg out of chipped 245bhp petrols, 60,000 miles out of a set of front tyres, etc etc.

You develop a sense for identifying them after a while.

I know that some of those making the claims are site sponsors so the mods turn a blind eye to their claims but b........ is b....... however you dress it up.

More power comes from burning more fuel. Putting a bigger turbo on means you can burn even more fuel, because more air can be forced into the engine.

Remapping alters, amongst other things, the amount of fuel being injected into an engine, it will have to inject more fuel to get more power.

Ive run various Octavia diesels 1.6/1.9/2.0 and they returned 45 to 50 mpg on average, a Toyota Auris hybrid that averaged 47mpg, and now a 1.4 tsi Octavia that’s averaging 41.6 mpg.

As I said in an earlier post, if petrol vRS’s are more economical then I wish I’d got one.

Take it from me petrol vrs,s are not more economical not a hope on earth .

It's all dependent on your driving.

I generally drive sedately on well flowing A roads, which is very good for economy. I've measured 39mpg, long term, best full tank just over 41mpg in my totally standard 245.

If I was in a 1.5TSI I'd probably be expecting 50mpg+, same with a 184 2.0TDI.

If people are doing short journeys or around town a lot, then they'll never see these figures but it doesn't mean those of us who do are bull****ting. There are very very few people claiming a routine 50mpg from a petrol VRS, if any? The only one I remember seeing is @shyVRS245 for one or two specific journeys.

It's actually very reassuring that this site is attracting new members who are looking at the mpg claims and are brave (or naive) enough to come out on here and say "WTF?"

There are a hardcore minority here (site sponsors) who will tell you that 50mpg out of chipped 245bhp petrol and 60,000 miles out of a set of front tyres is perfectly normal.

If you get 45mpg out of a VRS diesel then you've done well.

The chipped petrol fanboys who claim more than that......well, they'll have to argue with their conscience come the day that they have to stare their maker in the eye and He says "why did you post that rubbish?"

God bless those new members.

Name some names, I'm simply not seeing these routine claims of 50mpg from modified 245s on here. I've not seen anyone claim 60k from a set of fronts either, so that's another I've evidently missed.

40mpg sure, plenty saying that, including me.

You're relatively new here so I will cut you some slack. Fanboys FFS.

I won't name and shame those making outrageous claims.

Use the search facility on this website and you'll see what I mean.

You're not an MP taking time off from Brexit votes by any chance? because that's an MP's answer.

I 100% agree with Kensai.  Having looked at the number of times you make those claims, I'll quote John Major and say either put up or shut up. Like Kensai, I'm having trouble finding those claims too. And as for your claims that these are 'sponsors' - where's your evidence? Would have thought the site owners would be in a better position to determine that.

So, who are these people?

As for those 60k from a set of tyre claims.  I've just done several site searches of all forums on here and can't find any threads other than this one that mentions it.  Who claimed 60k from a set of fronts?

My drive to work yesterday, a fairly normal drive of about 5 miles that involves going through a city centre and sitting at lights for maybe 3 minutes at most, had me at just under 27mpg. Overall journey time is around 20 minutes.

That's on a mapped 220.

Not sure if that helps anyone.

Just to clear up a couple of points I can't get 60,000 miles from my front tyres, I do not sponsor Briskoda, I am not a Freedom member. However for my FANBOYS out there all these photo's have been taken since going stage 2 (336bhp if you missed my previous posts) on 23/10/2018, enjoy.

You clearly have a problem with the English language; "a hardcore minority" does not equal "routine claims".

"Routine claims" would mean the world and his wife would be making those claims which I didn't allege; hence my use of the word "fanboys".

Whether you like it or not, the moment someone (even a sad individual) posts something like that on a public forum, it's out there for those of us living in the real world to challenge.

Now I know that in the UK these days it's very politically incorrect to even poke your head over the parapet and say "hang on, that isn't right".

But b........ to political correctness; if something is wrong, it's right to call it out as wrong.

If you *really* want me to find the posts that you "couldn't" find, then I'll have a go but it will mean naming-and-shaming site sponsors which won't go down well.

Go for it, you've claimed its happening several times and haven't backed it up with an actual quote once, it's not my job to go digging around to see if it's true or if you're imagining it.

If you're so keen on challenging the bull**** as you say, then do it directly with the posts concerned, not vague comments in different threads.

Hes clearly having a go at Shy, which isnt very smart considering literally every "claim" hes made on this site is something hes backed up with facts and proof.

@SkodaVRS1963

Did you mean 'Freedom Members' as the'site sponsors' that you posted about?

If you flash £12 then you to can get a sticker and a home study course to learn to Hypermile,

you get a secret handshake and a 'dongle' that allows 'falsifying' the Maxidot readings.

Also some get cut some slack.

Don't worry guys, a mod who is on your side keeps flashing warning points at me.

I can't say any more, I'm a black guy and the mod, I'm guessing, has a issue with that.

Solicitors are involved........

Current tank after 82 miles showing 400 miles range left. 451 mile range is 41mpg average, 462 mile range is 42mpg, 473 mile range is 43mpg and 484 mile range is 44mpg. Photo can be sent if proof required. Having 350lb/ft of torque at 2,000 revs means not having to thrash it to get good mpg (standard car 273lb/ft maximum).

You need to remove that big chip on your right or left shoulder. Got 4 points for being a prat myself.:x

@SkodaVRS1963

How could anyone know you are Black, your forum name does not give any clues.

I get warnings and bans, but then i am a cheeky sod just like you are, i deserve warnings and bans, just like you IMO.

I am a 'Freedom Member' and others are allowed to call me names.

Not sure if i am a White Russian or Turk.

Or just stop bypassing the forum swear filter and get on with backing up your claims

This got out of hand fairly quick ,cant see myself what a mans skin colour got to do with a skoda forum and mpg ,well ime a white man and still only getting 23 mpg around town but still enjoying myself .
