Bigger brakes

Featured Replies

Being as I'm not too up on VW's, presumably lots of parts are interchangeable between VW, Audi & Skoda.

So my question is what discs and calipers bolt straight on a Yeti 2015.

All it is I have a full set of Brembo's off an Evo sitting in my garage and wondered if they'll fit?

The brakes are ok on the Yeti, but I'm used to 4 & 6 pot brakes and if its a pretty painless operation I'll do an upgrade.

Firstly which yeti they all have different brakes.

On my 140 I changed the front discs and calipers to the same as the 170 also used on a golf.

Much improved.

If you haven't got 312mm front discs, that's probably an easy upgrade. Likely to be new caliper brackets, discs and pads.

If you want something more interesting, this would probably work on a Yeti:

I think we need to know which front brakes your Yeti has. You may be able to read this through the spokes on an alloy wheel; failing that we might well get it right if you say which engine it has.

Well its a 2015 140 Model, surely it doesn't matter what brakes I have at present as I'm looking at changing

calipers & discs. Front & rear.

I'll have a look and see in a minute what calipers are on mine. Cant really see, single pot on the back with I assume 2 pots on the front.

The post about using Porsche ones seems up my street, I've used Brembo's for years and they are good calipers. Stick the right pads

in and they are good brakes.

Simple and easy mod is to change fronts to 312mm discs, this involves discs/pads and hangers, calipers stay the same. Improves stopping power no end, even when towing a 700+kg un-braked trailer which I do on occasions ;)

However guess from what you said that this wont be enough, in that case look at the Octavia route above.

Don't forget it is classed as a modification so you will need to inform your insurance company.

Yes it does. If you have FS III front calipers, you'll need to change the hub carriers to fit new calipers. I think you have DS3 calipers, in which case you only need new caliper brackets, discs and pads to fit 312mm front discs.

Interesting, Thanks for that I'll whip the wheel off over the weekend and post some pics up then they can be identified.

No problem, and no need for pics either; those caliper codes are literally cast into the outer surfaces of the calipers in BIG letters.

Details of what is what are here

So all 140/170 had the same front calipers only the brackets discs and pads changed.

I'm interested in this, as my brake work but aren't great, anyone know the more specific details about what hangers you need? 1.4 Tsi (2015 4x4, so not specifically covered by that chart), obviously I can find out what calipers/disc's I currently have fitted, but how do I find out about what hanger I need or where to get it from?

Hi.

If you had any issues with insurance for this type of conversion then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

If a person does fit up rated discs etc, and tells his Ins' Co, thats fine whilst he has that vehicle.

What happens then, if he was to sell that vehicle to a private individual, or even trade it into a dealer.

The private new owner would be none the wiser, so would not inform his Insurance Co. ??

If at a later stage in time, he (the new owner) had an accident, would the Insurance Co go measure his break discs etc, & then say Non Standard brakes??????

That is exactly what can happen, same as with a remap, a CAT or DPF removed, suspension changes.

But then even Main Dealers do not check an ECU or put a vehicles settings back to Factory Settings. and that can be one with Steering Assist, Brake Assist, XDS changed to more or less assist, or lights / bulbs changed.

The Insurance Industry know, the DfT know and so do the Police as it is how it has always been, & not only, cars, Motor Bikes and Goods Vehicles as well.

Quite simple, ignorance is no defence. It is a question that a buyer should be asking.
