Auto dip main beam

Featured Replies

Now I don’t know if my car has this, but I could’ve sworn it did it the other day on the way back from work.

Does my car have this feature? 65 plate SE L

if it does do I need to do anything special to activate it? For instance, my auto wipers need to be in ‘intermittent ‘ setting.

Where’s the sensor for it also?

sorry for all the questions

When driving along (over 50kph I think) when you push the light stalk away to turn on high beam you should get a little symbol on the dash that looks like this. It will dip automatically when:

- under a certain speed

- it sees what it thinks is a car approaching

- it sees too much light like your headlights off a road sign

If you turn on high beam assist and the lights don't come up then one of the above is likely getting in the way. When on full beam you can push the stalk away again and it will go to regular high beam. Pull again to turn off. Away again and it goes back to auto.

It uses the camera behind the mirror afaik. It's also more trouble than what it's worth, the number of times I've been flashed because it hasn't dipped the main beam is ridiculous, so I've disabled it.

I find that HBA works well, I've never been flashed by other drivers.

I reinstated it yesterday and this morning at 4am, it was flashing up and down and it never picked up three cars going the other way which flashed me, so it has been disabled yet again. Another waste of money.

Sounds like something is faulty and/or out of adjustment/calibration.

Do you know what this is the first Octavia that I've not felt really happy with, I  the colour, I  the ride quality and the grunt, but there's something missing...

My HBA works brilliantly and is far faster than me at dipping. I'm so impressed that yesterday I lowered my HBA thresholds to on above 15mph and off below 5mph.

To the Wanderer my opinion, for what it's worth, is dump the VRS which is trying to make the Skoda something it ain't and get decent quality ride in an SEL or L & K. Good choice of colour though.

I'm with you 100% and as I've said in other threads, it is not a system you can switch on and leave alone - unless you're willing to be a **** of a driver.

There are too many situations where user intervention is required - especially on long straight roads and those with lots of curves.

I run with HBA, however I constantly keep an eye on the oncoming traffic, watching lights around corners which is something HBA cannot pre-dip for and make sure I do it.

I do not like dazzling other drivers and if that means I have to intervene then so be it.

I agree it's not something to have on and then ignore. It doesn't pick up cars in side streets. Though in normal conditions the only time it's stayed on was when I had inadvertently put it in manual mode.

So if you're driving in a lot area and HBA has you back to dipped, to turn off HBA you have to turn on high beams before you can turn them off again?

You can briefly operate the rotary light switch to manual then back to auto which cancels HBA if you want

HBA works better at higher speeds!!!

Needs another 90bhp then you will really love it.

Why would I when the ride is fine and comfortable? I want something with some grunt, not something gutless like a tory MP.

Now you're being naughty... I can't afford to get my car tuned, I've got £1600 on a credit card to pay off, plus VCDS as well, although that might become available yet as I'm struggling with it.

You need to sit in the passenger seat with NOAIM and then follow up a ride with the SHYSTER then you can decide who the REAL Looney is.

I'd like to try and see my pension age and keep my bowel movements private.

I don't need to worry about my hair that gets shaved off everyday to stop the grey & white hair appearing and to stop me pulling it out dealing with the residents of London & Surrey.

HBA also works rather well for me, it dips instantaneously when an oncoming car comes round a bend into view etc. As long as the sensor is kept clean it works well, not sure I've ever been flashed because it hasn't dipped automatically.

I've adjusted the speed and the LX settings for detection to make it more sensitive, but it worked fairly well when it was factory coded.

How do you do that please? Is it via VCDS/OBDeleven?

Tia.

Yes VCDS or OBDEleven adaptation on A5 camera module.

2 settings - 1 for Night Vehicle detection deactivation brightness and 1 for Night vehicle detection activation brightness. Defaults are 20lx for deactivation and 3lx for activation. You can also change activation and deactivation speeds too.

This thread has a bit more info:

Decided to look into the adaptations for deactivation and activation - see if that improves things.

However, I do not appear to have these adaptations listed (Late 2017, as per signature).

I have two settings which appear to mention activation/deactivation which are labelled us as "Active" and "Passive" which have been factory set at 20 and 1 (don't know if these are the same adaptations, just named differently).

Anybody made this 3lx to 10lx change on a FL Octy? If so, which adaptations are they?

Cheers.

You're in the same position as me, can't find them and I'm not going to meddle with things when they're working, albeit just not very well.
