@Wino they look like a really good idea to be honest. The issue I’ve actually got is the nut on the bracket has come off the bracket and someone has butchered it is the past to the point a 13mm won’t fit and a 12mm is way to small so the entire thing just spins. As the other two gave no real trouble I never thought twice until the entire throng started to spin .

 

it will be off tomorrow guaranteed I just need to remember to torque everything up with the jack under the strut so it’s got some pressure this time. 

Ah, yes, I've had that too. VW group also do nasty little tricks like making some of those welded-on nuts octagonal, instead of hexagonal, not sure if those specific ones are, but they might be. Can confuse the socket set, or ring spanner.

And here I was thinking that vw seem more sensible than Vauxhall’s  haha.

That’s exactly what happened today and what I’ll be doing in the morning. I’m planning on just cutting straight down the middle of th bolt and through the nut.

 

You can just use standard nyloc nuts, the plate is only there for convenience and locking.

True. Some Fabia ball joint kits just come with bolts and nyloc nuts.

it is seriously stuck I tried alsorts to get it out without damaging the new console rubber.

 

Got know where except for destroying a ball joint which is siezed into the hub so a better ball joint splitter has been ordered.

Slather it in washing up liquid and use a big ratchet strap to pull it out.

 

You're supposed to leave the ball joint in the hub carrier and just unbolt it from the end of the wishbone.

@sepulchrave  I’ll give it a go with washing up liquid. Yeah I know I’ve got a new wish bone and ball joint to go on. Before I pretty much destroyed it all the rubber was split and dirt was getting in hence the need for a swap lol.

That is exactly why I bought a big set of taps and dies from Screwfix when I started getting into difficulties working on my wife's old 2002 Polo back in 2006/2007, running a die down the exposed ends works a lot better than a serious wire brushing, I'd never ever plan to use that set of taps and dies to cut a new thread, but for thread cleaning/dressing it is first class as it includes most of the fine and coarse thread sizes used by VW Group, the tap wrench and die holder are crap, but I have proper tap wrenches and as the "handles/arms" unscrew from the main body of the die holder, they can get into most tight spots, though not quite as tight spots as a genuine set would like you bought.

 

These lower swivel captive nut plates seem to have vanished from newer cars, it is now nuts and bolts - these "tri nut" plates would have been handy for initial assembly though. I think that the grade of bolts might have changed as well and maybe the size as the spec'd torque has be beefed up from what I remember.
