Samsung Galaxy Note 9 - Android Auto

Featured Replies

Hi, I can't seem to connect my Note 9 to my entertainment system through Android Auto. I have a 2016 Octavia VRS and it keeps coming up that it won't recognise the device.

Has anyone else had similar issues and if so how did you fix them?

TIA

Marc

Had a OnePlus 5t then changed to a pixel 3. Both a little fiddly to get going. I have it connected to Bluetooth then plug in. If it doesn't work the first time I pull the plug and try again. Never fails after the second replug.

Thank you mate, will give it a go

Did you have a previous phone working? Thought 2016 was too early to have Android Auto enabled as standard

No I only picked the car up on Saturday, it has the option for Android Auto on the smartlink menu page so thought it may work?

Is the SmartLink activated?

Yeah, the dealer plugged his iPhone in and it worked straight away on Saturday so I'm guessing it's all switched on

Try a few cables, with iPhones they really need an Apple cable. Could be the same with Samsung. Also I guess the phone has the Android Auto app installed on it? Not to teach you to suck eggs, but worth an ask :)

Yeah all installed but will different cable maybe though, thank you :)

Got it working now, must have been a dodgy cable, thanks everyone for their help :)

No worries, I was very confused when I tried to set up an Android phone on SmartLink for the first time as CarPlay doesn’t require an app download, it’s built in but AA does. The USB is a bit fiddly and the phones can prefer some cables to others.

Some 'aftermarket' USB cables are only charging cables and do not have the data pins wired up, only the positive and negative pins are connected. The original Samsung cable should work perfectly unless damaged.

Have been using the Note 9 since it came out on my 2016 Octavia and all runs great, although have not managed to get mirror link working. Did install Car Mode from Galaxy store which got what looked like mirror link working however could not seem to find nav apps and also Spotify wasn't on the car screen either. Reinstalled once but reverted back to android auto for now as have got used to the layout / format.

HTH

From what I've seen mirrorlink is pretty useless.  you get it working well with one app then you try something else and you have to change a load of setting to get it working again.  Android auto is far superior.

For future reference, I've had much success with this cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0756WJPZQ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_GqaYCb5CB2A9F

and my Pixel 3.

Anecdotally - I've also been more impressed with AA than Carplay - Spotify for one seems a whole world more usable and stable.

i use spotify, i have a quick connect magnetic cable, i also have a beta version of a wireless AA but its not as stable. the magnetic cable is excellent as it wont wreck your data port on the phone if you forget and lift your phone without removing the cable.

Is this with MIB2 unit or another vehicle with aftermarket headunit?
