Nearly had a crash yesterday

Sorry if this topic has been discussed before re engine software.   I was crossing a road in first when the engine slowed and the car stopped in the middle of a busy junction...Luckily nobody was coming in either direction and it's not the first time it has done it with myself driving and also my wife.      No matter what you do pressing the accelerator the engine is hyper slow to pick up...especially  at roundabouts etc.,.  It is a fault which only happens on rare occasions usually when pressing the accelerator to enter a junction or roundabout from stop,    timing the speed to oncoming traffic.

i have a 1.5 2018 October manual  petrol.     Is their a real fault or software tweak. It could have had me sandwiched as two oncoming cars possibly could have hit my sides as was stuck  in the middle till the computer says Yes I will speed up.

May I, with respect, suggest that you grab a few bottles of beer and some sandwiches to keep you going while you work your way through the 78 pages of this thread ....

...... and then, if the beer/sandwiches haven't run out, take a look at this one .....

I would take it back to the dealer and tell them of the problem and that you want a hire car till it's been fixed.

@Biggles33

Ask Skoda UK Customer Services on Tuesday to give you an answer in writing about Software updates and your dangerous car being on the road.

It should really be collected by transporter and a courtesy car dropped off until they can have it fixed and not a danger just to you and yours but other road users.

Regardless of being a bank holiday 'Skoda Assist' could arrange that tomorrow.

As above, ring Skoda Assist, be sure to emphasise that the car isn't safe, you don't feel safe driving it.

They'll arrange a hire car whilst your Karoq sits in the dealers compound awaiting Skoda's official fix.

in 15 months of ownership, i too had this but only once, car shortly started to work normal and we called AA who diagnosed and came back with 0 issues, ever really got to the bottom of the root cause

Thank you for the reply much appreciated.   The problem is that it happens once in several months of problem free driving. I worry that taking it to a dealer will leave me with a bigger problem than I have at the moment as from what I gather does not seem to be a fix.. I had brought it to the attention of Skoda before but as others have mentioned they say they are not aware of a problem - too busy making very poor commercials with singers  that have nothing to do with the car. Will give them a ring.

There IS a problem - the person you were speaking to was lying. My 1.5 manual came from the same era as yours i.e. end of September 2018 - and mine had exactly the same problem as yours. It had the frightening habit of dying at junctions - it didn't do it all the time, but when it did, it was pretty scary. Skoda took it off the road for about 5 or 6 weeks and gave me a courtesy Karoq Scout until the software fix was applied just over 3 weeks ago. At first, it still kangarooed somewhat, but now seems to be settling down and my confidence is returning for what is, basically, an excellent car. So far, I haven't had any of the 'dying at junctions' so, 'fingers-crossed'! I understand that 'the magic fix' isn't appropriate for all Karoqs .......but you must nevertheless do some shouting and screaming at Skoda; your insurance company would take a dim view of you riding around in a dangerous car,

I am appalled to think that Skoda/VAG hasn't issued a general recall for these cars - I suspect that they are waiting for owners to complain, and only then putting them in a courtesy car. Shame on Skoda/VAG, and shame on DVSA for allowing them to pull the wool over their eyes.

@Biggles33

Skoda UK are very aware as Skoda Specialist Cars John Clark Group and if you get someone that is not tell them to go find someone that knows about Skodas.

They have all the necessary gear at their disposal.  a tongue in their head, at least one hand with fingers, a phone and a keyboard. Maybe not much of a memory though.

Lookers in Stockport tried the same denial, I went to Skoda UK direct who eventually put me in a hire car and took the car to RRG in Rochdale, sadly still no fix for my car though. (MY18)

Thank You everyone..  There was no warning on the dash as far as I know    my attention was getting the car to start moving from impending cars hitting me from the side or behind.

I will tackle Skoda again but do Not trust the local dealer, thus did not purchase from them and reported them to Skoda but that is another story.

Thank you again

If you have any issues with a John Clark Dealership like the Skoda one in Aberdeen be sure to get in touch with John Clark Group management as they do want to know.

Get it in writing to them and have it copied to the Dealership Principal at the Aberdeen Dealership.

People go to the Victoria Garage Maud because of the experience they have in Aberdeen at the John Clark Dealership.

Skoffski... Thank you ....I have spoken to you about my problem with John Clark last year.. Three or four years ago I did contact Skoda HQ   to complain about JCG Aberdeen  and the sales team at JCG

Sadly although 100% justified in my complaint.   They blamed modern brakes not being made well...Tell that to Skoda, cars HQ  The VRS Octavia is  now with my son in Worcestershire and has passed four MOT's  since with the alleged   750 POUND fault (plus VAT )   still not found by 5 other garages    SAME BRAKES.....  it was  a three year old car needed nothing until its first MOT mmmm?    I stupidly gave the go ahead to replace the back brakes 450 pounds plus VAT..but the front were also needing done according to them ..Disc brakes not pads? ...I have never gone through brakes in my 30 odd years of driving loads of cars.   I got nowhere with them JCS cars ...So I very  nearly did not buy another Skoda....But decided to go to Nottingham to buy my new car...  so they lost a sale but they could not care less...

Re my problem I phone Skoda Customer Services  today..They know nothing about a software issue or mod to the system and know of no problem, but were helpful.......I had phoned Victoria Garage Maud,    miles away as they have an excellent reputation I have heard..    The girl at Victoria garage phoned me back a second after I had phoned Skoda CC so they had no contact with Skoda...She had spoken to the mechanic who told her THERE IS A SOFTWARE mod.. So booked in tomorrow for the software update....Takes 30 minutes to do

Why are we mortals not informed by Skoda....It takes a small country garage to sort the problem out>>>>

Yes will let you know.how it goes........ I am a bit puzzled at the Skoda Connect which was free for first year but 50 pounds plus next year... My son bought a dongle so it works...   But what on earth is the point of having  this to check for updates on it.....As the updates available section  says NO UPDATES needed...... But I know of two thanks to you guys and the small country garage...One for engine mod and my Nav map has an update........ So are these updates a secret from Skoda Connect or am I just stupid...?

Skoda UK Customer Services Call Handlers and Communications Managers are unbelievable.

They must sign in to work and on the keyboard and then have total memory loss of what went the day before.

All the gear and no idea.

Thankfully there are Techs / Mechanics about that are Technically minded and give a damn about After Car Sales, as Skoda UK / CZ Management clearly do not.

Glad I found this post. My Sept 2018 which I bought in March completely lost power as I entered a major roundabout. Took 2 goes to restart. It also kangaroos badly in low gear. Booked it in for software patch which I'm expecting Bristol Street Skoda to do under warranty.

Just back from a family run garage Victoria Garage Maud  Aberdeenshire..   Fantastic Service.. I drove an hour to get there ,   but worth every penny of fuel... They  put software in- in less than thirty minutes... Might be me,    but the car seems great at junctions,    more power and toque,   perhaps a little less power on 3rd/4th   but might be me..  Small price to pay for safety.

Can not speak more highly of the professionalism of this garage...  They even gave me some touch up paint for nothing...Garage of choice for me not like the Aberdeen one.

Happy driver now.

If I find a problem will let you know...

Thank you

Thanks Biggles33. I always thought something wasn't right with the low power in 1st & 2nd, but haven't driven a petrol engine for 15+years, always had VW 2.0 TDIs so just put it down to the new engine.  Am seriously peeved at VW Group as had to walk away from buying a brand new Touran due to emissions testing certs / VOSA tests, now this with the Skoda.

If you bought a Sept 2018 car in March, can I assume that it was a 'used' vehicle. Did you buy it privately or from a dealer? I am interested because if it was a dealer, then he knowingly sold you a dodgy vehicle or, if it was privately, then it looks like the seller was offloading a vehicle that they knew had a fault.

If it was a Sept18 (build) car, then it should be possible to fix it with the software update.

Hi, I bought it from the dealer (Bristol Street Skoda Derby) as new, it was pre-registered by the dealer 2 days before I picked it up and re-registered it. Not sure why they'd had it for so long before selling.

By March, the dealer should have known about the problems with the 1.5 petrol engine.  This was published on 23 January .....

Just had Skoda Customer Care phone me to see how the software Update went!

As Skoffski  pointed out in a post above...He was 100% correct...   Customer care no nothing about any software update, nor do they know of any problem with the first gear issue,   also they do not have any info on why Skoda did not contact me re updates available...   Very quickly,    it was as if I had been phoned by a Indian call centre in that  "The computer says no syndrome"

She could not tell me why a customer  was having to  phone  Skoda to inform THEM  that they have issued a software update.. It took a small garage and Briskoda members to action this dangerous issue..   Skoda Connect??? She could not explain why I received no notification from the car or a dealer or Skoda re update...

I suggested politely perhaps they should look at their training or are they just not telling the truth...  Come on Skoda its bad enough when I was shafted by a previous dealer I don't expect Skoda to let me down.... I love the car, and my new garage
