Replacement brakes issue

Hello All,

 

I am glad that I have found this site as I have access to so much useful info now ;)

 

The Vrs was one of my dream cars back in the day and roughly a month ago I made a quick decision and got my hands on a 2014 manual petrol black vrs ;) love it. The rear brakes were really not in a good shape so I paid a visit to a local brake expert in Watford and had the discs and pads changed. After a week the pads started moving up and down for about a millimetre or two and gave a funny cracking noise sometime. I decided to take it back to him and he exchanged the pads last Thursday however they started making this noise again...any idea? This is getting really annoying. I paid 170GBP for the discs and pads. Sometimes I feel there is a good reason why Skoda dealers charge much more but get the job done.

Find out which pads they are. Sometimes 3rd party lads move slightly in the callipers.

Just got a quote from Skoda Watford for 267GBP for changing the rear brake pads only!!!

Kwikfit would be 130 GBP.

 

So far I spent 170 GBP on new pads and discs and I am not willing to spend another 270 GBP on the pads only.

 

Is there any reasonable mechanic/garage out there? I told the dealer that I am aware of an offer for 270 GBP changing the pads and discs and he said the VRSs are excluded. Great....

If concerned you really should be taking it back to the original place who did the work.  I know you went back there once but if there is a genuine fault it could be with the batch or brand of pads.

There will always be a bit of play otherwise the pads will not move in when wearing out.  Different manufacturers will have different tolerances.

I'd take it back in explaining your concerns more clearly and asking if they have any other brands they can compare with.  Getting some work done then taking somewhere else to be looked at will confuse any aftersales support from the original supplier.

Honestly it's really easy and there are so many videos on YouTube. 

 

Jack car, 

Wheel off, 

Caliper off, 

Pull out old pads, 

Wind back caliper, 

Wire brush to give the area a bit of a clean, 

Give the back of the pads a Liberal spread of copper slip, 

New pads in, 

Caliper back on, 

Wheel back on, 

Remove Jack stand. 

 

And as I said before pump the brakes a bit. This makes sure the pad is up against the disk so that when you brake your car actually brakes. 

 

It could be that the pads are supposed to have spacers fitted to stop them moving slightly. A good pad kit would come with new ones.

My local Audi specialist did my rear discs and pads (i supplied) for £75.  I used MTEC disks and Brembo pads.  Never had a problem (used the same setup on my Oct 2, Cooper S and A4 Quattro).

 

Ive never heard of those pads before tbh (in your pic)

I've never used Bosch pads so dont know what they are like but Brembo are good - you could also always go for standard pads from Skoda.

 

Not saying the Bendix arent good, just never heard of them and strange you have only had issues since trying to use them (assuming the first replacemnet set were Bendix also)

Funny when i checked out their website there were no pads for skoda at all. Anyway i ordered the brembo pads. Lets see
