How to retrofit trailer assist on a Skoda Superb MY17

After a lot of research,

You must have Park Assist (PLA 3.0)

You must have a Tow Bar (Obviously)

You need to either install or replace your RVC (Reversing Camera), not just for a High version, but a High version that supports trailer assist (As I found out to my cost of nearly £200), the standard L&K factory camera will not work. To replace the camera, you only change the boot opener button section that includes the camera and plug in the cables, the cables running to the back of the stereo are the same, took me less than 10 minutes to swap over the camera.

 

I bought my camera from an eBayer in Germany who was recommended to me, I had a 5Q0 980 568 B camera with the 5Q0-980-556 label file with measurements for my specific vehicle, the camera I believe is from a VW Touran or similar, but the seller will upload what ever vehicle you ask.

The camera does come with a cable set which is not needed, I will put it with my 1 week old camera to sell it on.

My old camera was 3V0 827 566 N – Shows in VCDS as 5Q0 980 556 B

 

To code using either VCDS / VCP / ODB ELEVEN (I used VCDS)

 

1) Open module 6C (Backup camera), change long coding Byte 10, tick Bit 3 (equipment_ARA_optical,installed)

 

 

2) Open module 10, login using security code 71679, change long coding Byte 3, tick Bit 3 (Trailer positioning assistant, 0 = not installed / 1 = installed)

 

 

3) Open module 5F – Go to Adaptions, change “ENG122229-ENG122332-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-Trailer_Assistant_msg_bus_0x36” to “COMFORT BUS”

 

 

 

NOTE: Please ignore other websites that ask for adaptions on

1. menu_display_trailer_assistant

2. menu_display_trailer_assistant_over_threshold_high

3. Trailer_Assistant_0x36

Leave these 3 as not activated. Activating these 3 can cause problems with your RVC (Reversing camera)

 

4) Open module 17 – Change long coding Byte 12, Tick Bit 5 (Trailer positioning assistant,Yes)

 

Clear all DTC's

Then hook up your trailer,

Engage reverse gear

 

Press the park assist button, you can now control the trailer from the mirror adjust joystick, press it down to fix at straight back,

 

Or press to the left / right and use the maxidot to tell the car where you want the trailer.

To Stop trailer assist, either select drive / 1^st gear or press the park assist button again.

I hope this helps someone and saves them many hours of research of which cameras do / don't work etc.

Thank you, I'm going to get started :) I have park assist and rear view camera but I don't think the trailer assist is on my camera, I'm going to order a camera with the trailer assist and plug it in and then code it, hoping that works with my vcds :)

Once again me, bringing a deceased thread to life! So my Superb had all the prerequisite; PLA 3.0, 360 OPS, factorry fitted tow hitch, all i needed was the adequate RVC, so i got the needed RVC part nmbr 5Q0980568B. 

Installed, coded, hooked up a trailer, and behold ARA (trailer assist). Had some fun, parked my trailer. And then dissapointment!

After moving around in my yard and coming close to a wall in front, i got the usual tones from my PDC, but no OPS display on the MIB, and no RVC view as well. So i pressed the PDC button, turned it off, pressed it again, and no RVC or OPS again.

 

Long story short, i only have working RVC and OPS if the car is in reverse, otherwise all i get is sound, no visual representation on MIB, no RVC view.

 

One error over OBD11. in 6C; U112100 - Databus missing message-static

 

Any help is greatley appriciated! Thank you all in advance!

Just to conclude this, for future reference, if anybody will need it!
The problem was the gateway, it could not pass messages between the new camera and the PDC, so i tested out a newer gateway from a Tiguan, and it works, just need to go to the dealer to get the CP removed, till then im still using the old gateway.

 

So you need 3Q0907530Q or newer, with software version 4342 or newer, preferably made by Lear, Morocco. Not the Continental one.

No worries, glad i could help, in general yes, it is a must to calibrate RVC, but i got mine off ebay, and it was pre calibrated, and ready to use.. So no calibration for me, as described above, my issue was the gateway.. So just make sure your gateway is the adequate one!

Judging by that, neither sodtware, nor hardware version of your gateway will work, you have a C gateway.

From what I've found on photos for "Q" gateway, it looks that HW version is same (all "Q" I've found have 3Q0 907 530 C), you have different investigation? From ETKA I've found that "Q" variant was from 30.7.2018 to 26.11.2018, but "AA" variant is successor (26.11.2018 to 8.7.2019). Is there simple way to check what functions each gateway supports (for eg "AA" version support x,y,z...) from ETKA or Workshop manual etc.?

I got the exact same one, and it works, from what i can tell you are looking at the SW version, you need to look at the HW, your ends with C, thats the exact same like i had, and it did not work.. Bought the Q one, and its all good now..

 

Did you already retrofit the trailer assist and do you have the same issue?

Not now, I'm in prepare phase and gatering all informations and "problems"... my deductions from yellow marked description in screen (taken from your provided link). Ok, I'll try to replace camera, code and if this doesn't work, investigate GW. Last question - is it possible to only replace camera module in handle or is it needed to replace whole handle?

I am no expert on the modules, but i was told the big number on top is the HW version.. So thats what i bought on ebay, and worked for me! 

As for the camera, i only replaced the camera no need to replace the handle, i also added the wash function as i did not have it, bought my camera from Vw modul on ebay, ill link you his shop now!

Does this mean that seller will upload compatible firmware + parameters?

I cannot find 5q0980568b dataset for Superb III neither in VCPs filemanager nor by Googling.

A quick google shows there is an ODIS dataset/parameter file called "6C_5Q0980556B_0231 - superb.xml" on one of the usual sources...

Does anyone know what is so special about the 5Q0 980 568 B? What is the diference? Resolution? Field of view? Dynamic range? What makes the trailer assist possible?
