I have just bought a skoda yeti 5L 2011 1.4 TSI. None of the controls on the steering wheel are working. I suspect that the problem might be with the clock spring. Do you know if that can be fixed/repaired or it is mandatory to replace with the new one?

I cannot see a reliable repair being made to a clock spring.

@Yeti5L14TSI - I agree with @Urrell that it's probably impossible to repair (rather than replace) a clock spring.

I am planning to buy an after market topran clock spring because genuine is very expensive. How do you tell which on is the correct one? Or you use vin since oem is difficult to read without removing it

Get the car scanned with VCDS or similar.

 

It'll show the hardware and software versions of the existing steering module plus it's coding which you'll probably need.

The part number will depend on exactly when the car was manufactured and what options it had.

 

The best way to check is to either scan it or take it apart to check. It's much better to check before you buy a replacement part rather than afterwards...

A dealer might be able to from the VIN but the parts catalogue states that "before parts order, physical inspection of old part necessary" so I'm guessing it's not always correct: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/yeti/yet/2011-666/9/953-953051/

 

It's because they used various types of stalk that look identical when fitted but are not physically compatible with each other.

According to the technicians this the correct part OE 5k0953569h. There is a huge discrepency between this one and the others that fit different models. There is a huge difference. This one costs around 300 gbp and the others are as low as 40gbp. Anyone has an idea about this matter?

5k0953569H is a plausible part number for a 2011 Yeti. How did the technician check?

 

As for the other cheaper parts, it's impossible to tell without their part numbers if they'll work. You need to remember that many versions won't support the MFSW which is why you need the more expensive 'highline' version.

He did come out wit this number using the VIN. He found out this using his own computer. He did not see the car

I would still suggest you double check using diagnostic equipment or by physical inspection.

I have removed the steering wheel and found the exact part number for clock spring. The price at the dealer is around 350-400. Any ideas for an aftermarket dealer? Attached pic of the part number
