Anyone painted/ replaced black plastic bumpers

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone had either

colour matched their black plastic rear bumper side skirts with body colour

or

replaced with either L&K or sportline version

pics, costs and advice appreciated

thanks

PK

Sportline bits are way too expensive and because of the texture colour codings gonna need a lot of prep to get it right .

im sure the prices will come down eventually.

That was my main reason for buying black as it doesn’t stand out as badly but if I’d of known there was a sportline on way I would of waited

Thanks very much

when you say the texture & colour codes are going to need a lot of prep do you mean to make sure paint will adhere ? Or do you mean the standard bumper has a different finish from the Sportline?

thanks again

Both . The standard ones are rough to touch where as the sportline comes flat ready to paint and guessing less flex .

Ah, ok - guessing Sportline rear bumper is 000’s given your first post?

You need few different parts it’s not that bad compared to the door mouldings but I’ve not checked prices in a while

I rather like having black plastic on the bumpers, they don’t really show up scuffs too bad unlike painted ones that can require costly rework.

I’m really careful where I park the Kodiaq, but my wife’s Yeti with painted bumpers has not been so lucky.

if you do paint them ensure they are well prepared and use the correct primer for plastic. I had a company Superb that was repaired by the lease company where a Hire Company driver hit the front bumper / headlight  and drove off (blue and yellow paint left behind). A couple of weeks after the repair I was jet washing the car and blew the paint off!

The garage were most upset when I peeled the rest off until I asked if they’d used the correct primer (they hadn’t of course) and I pointed out it would all need taking off and redoing properly, it hardly adhered to the plastic. The repair was much better and gave no issues whilst I had the car.
