Sportline tyres

Featured Replies

Hi,

As is my usual MO I’ve bought a new car and dealing with the practicalities later...

I’ve got 19” wheels, I notice the standard tyres are 235/40/19 which seems a pretty unusual size, there’s not much choice on black circles and they’re EXPENSIVE! £160-£200 a tyre. Expensive enough for my AMG Merc driving mate to gasp, especially as his tyres are about half that. They’re the same bar they’re 245/40/19.

Has anyone tried fitting 245s to their Superb? I can’t imagine it’ll be too much of a problem given how small a difference it is.

A few here in Oz have made the switch from 235/40 to 245/40 on their 19s, with no issues, cause of the very reason u mentioned - much much cheaper.

Plus thicker sidewall for better absorption.

Plus easier to find/source.

I'll b making the switch once my Pirelli P7 is out of life.

Sportsline looks have taken precedence over having sensible sized wheels that take commonly available tyre sizes.

Many of the newest tyre designs are simply not available in that size, which makes me wonder why it was chosen (vanity ?)

Look through the various Skoda websites for other countries and finding 19 inch wheels as standard spec is rare,

I feel your pain.  Yes they seem to be a relatively expensive tyre size and unfortunately the only R19 profile which Skoda recommend so you ideally would need to inform your insurer of any change/deviation from the manufacturers recommended size.

I did just manage to pickup a full set of Michelin PS4's for £548 thanks to an eBay discount code and multityre buy from mytyres ebay outlet.  Otherwise they would have cost closer to £700 from Blackcircles.

Just don't ever try and switch to using all-season tyres as there's literally a choice of two in this size.  😕

Thanks All, my current ones seem to have plenty of 'meat' left on them, but it's good to know I can go to 245 with little pain.

The tyre prices in the UK are not that high IMO but no idea about Australia,

and maybe not a good choice of 'All-Season' tyres in a 235/40 R 19, but plenty in a 'Winter tyre'.

Not that you need a choice really since you are only buying the one set and fitting, and what is in offer works as tyres for Summer, Winter or the 'All Seasons' if that is what you are after.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 245/40R19 98Y XL  (69dB) for me!!! (We don't get the 5's in Australia)...

If you are driving a lot and gonna go through a few tyre changes, can consider a set of 18rims at 235/45. That is if you don't mind having different wheels and look. Probably work out cheaper overall and you have a set of wheels to keep or sell.

I’m paying £150 a tyre fitted for P7 pirelli

Why? Have you used them before?

Serious question.

Interesting choice, I have P7s which came on my car and want to change them.  Fine in the summer, but dreadful in cooler weather of autumn until April mornings, hard and not grippy.

What do youlike about them, or do you run separate set of winter tyres?

Vredestein Quatrac 5,

not expensive and work rather well in the conditions that they work well in. Just a mater of what you want.

Cheers........any chance of a full side on photo of the car on these tyres.

Will the different size cause any problems with the cars safety systems??

I will try and get another pic up soon.

As for the cars safety systems, I have the full suite... and no issues what so ever!

So what did you change from . and how is the NVH.

I am in the process of looking for something to replace ContisportContact 5 235/45R18 - bad for coarse chip roar and vibration under the same conditions.

The 19s come with 235/40 from factory.

Now he has 245/40 on the same rim.

Same profile with a 10mm wider tyre.....that's wats changed.

I'm a long way behind you fancy MkIII boys, but if its any consolation I ran a higher profile tyre on my MkII Superb for several years / many thousands of miles without issue...

I was asking more about the tyre brand / model

Most of the well regarded HP/UHP tyres are available in this size but as you point out they seem expensive when compared to other R19 sizes, even the same tyre in R20 can be found cheaper.

Now take a look at which all-season tyres are available...that's my biggest gripe about this particular tyre size.

Thought u were referring to the tyre specs he changed from.....

Given he has the same wheels as me, in Oz - I'd say he had the Pirelli P7.

All 19" wheel came with Pirelli P7 (which mine had).

They now come with Bridgestone Potenza S001.
