Is this normal for a 1.4 TSI. Range vs Fuel tank meter? i have attached a pic

If there was about 40 litres in the tank at that point the range of 300 km would mean you had been getting pretty poor economy at that point.

But is the fuel tank 45 or 55?  I have done 65km so far.

The algorithm used to calculate Range is heavily biased towards most recent driving style. So can vary wildly depending on where you are/how you have been driving. Don't worry about occasional variations. Do worry if you run out of fuel early...

Fuel gauge tends to stick at full for some time in my diesel. Hence have used a lot more fuel than you think by the time it indicates at that position.

The gauge is not linear. The range is dependant on how you are driving and what type of roads you are on

In addition, having filled mine up when the gauge was well in the red zone and the range was saying almost no miles left, I was unable to get more than 52L in it despite supposedly having a 60L tank in the diesel 4x4 version and me filling it right up to the brim.  I'd conclude that, at least on the diesel 4x4 version, there is a margin of about 7-9 litres left in the tank when "empty".  Probably to ensure it isn't run dry.

My general advice is not to rely on fuel gauges for accuracy, they can - and do - fail.  I know how much on average I need to put in after driving a given number of miles.  I take the trip mileage and quickly in my head do the math to figure out how much is left in the tank.  Generally I refill at around 500 miles travelled as I know this leaves me a safe margin of nearly 1/3 tank.  I should point out though that a) mine is a diesel 4x4 and b) is heavily weighted towards motorway cruising so, quite literally, your mileage may vary!

The law of averages kicks in if you're only refilling at around 1/3 tank left.  Any short blip in consumption caused by unusual driving will be swamped by the larger "normal" driving mileage so overall the average consumption will be close enough to allow dead reckoning calculation of fuel left based on miles driven.

Don't forget Widdershins that the tank on the 4x4 is saddle shaped so sometimes it seems to be full but isn't until the contents equalise across the two sides.

From my experience empty leaves less than 5 litres in the tank.

We have a 1.4 tsi 150 4x4. From full our predicted range fluctuates between 650 and 700km and we usually get just over 700km actual range to properly empty.

300 km is silly low even if you drove it like you stole it.

Thnx. I will test it this time until gas runs out.

No worries I’ve never seen a range that low with the gauge where it is in your picture.

Thats why i got concerned. Its been few days i bought this car. Since the clock spring it not working i am unable to check the other menu settings within mfd

Yeah even if you drove it hard all the time you’d never see that. 65km from full our gauge has not even moved.
