Approved Used 1.5 TSI DSG Edition

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am heading down South to buy a 2018 (first registered June 2018) Karoq 2wd Edition 1.5 TSI DSG on Saturday.

It has nearly 6000 miles on the clock.

I was happy with the deal and looking forward to getting the car until stumbling across the various issues with 'kangarooing' and loss of power in 2nd gear, etc.

I will obviously test drive the car prior to signing anything... but I'm obviously concerned now. I have emailed the dealer asking whether the car has had any software updates and for any information on upcoming/outstanding updates.

Would you say that purchasing an approved used 1.5 TSI Karoq is a bit of a risk right now? Or is it only a small number of the cars with these engines that have the issues with the majority being OK?

Thoughts appreciated - I will be making the long drive to see the car regardless but am more than willing to walk away without the Karoq if it exhibits issues.

Thanks in advance for any words of advice, warning, etc !

I would be happy to go for the DSG as there are much less reported issues than on the manual, and mine has been fine since I got it.

That's good to hear breezy, thank you for the reply.

When was yours built please out of interest? Seems to me in general from perusing the forum that it is the 18 plates that have the bulk of the issues but I'm not sure if that is the case or not.

@dipstick

Welcome.

Maybe it is the case that there are less reporting or even having issues with 1.5 TSI EVO DSG's, but there are issues still, and 1.5 TSI EVO DSG's that have been rejected or traded in at a loss to those that had had enough.

Maybe post up the Registration Number of the one you are going to see.

Ask the Salesperson in writing what they know of the history, was it a Skoda / Dealership car / Demonstrator, or something else,

and ask straight if the last keeper rejected the car.

I believe the registration is MT18PGE.

I shall ask as you suggested Skoffski, thanks very much for the advice.

Example of a rejected 1.5 TSI EVO DSG.

  Not the only one about.

Make sure the Karoq's engine hasn't been warmed up before you go for a test run, you want to start and drive off with the engine etc etc cold as possible.

Hi, I have one of the early DSG's and it does suffer some jerkiness at start, not warmed up. Actually last night after a day parked up it was particularly noticeable.

Some good advice to make sure car cold at start.

For me not a major issue, a bit worried about long term effects but overall move to DSG has been great. Hopefully once the urgent manual cars have been fixed a fix can be rolled out to the DSG versions.

Our DSG was registered 31st jan 2018 but ordered by the dealer before that so one of the first in the country I believe, we haven't had any of the issues others have complained about, according to our dealer the kangarooing is very hit and miss, the sales people have owned quite a few by now and only one had the issue and he said since the software update they haven't had any back. Yes he could have just said that but we weren't in there to buy a car so it didn't matter to us what he said.

The sales people will have been putting 3,000 miles on demonstrators to sell for good money and they are lying barstewards very often that never check the oil unless a 'low oil warning  or low oil pressure light / message comes up.

………….and I was chatting to a service manager a couple of weeks ago and he said there has been no fix that has properly worked yet and they are still working on it !

Just got home with the approved used Karoq. The car was an ex-Motability and in very good condition. The engine was smooth from cold with no hints of kangaroo.

The only negative I've found so far is that one of the plastic..... blobs?... that secure the drivers foot mat in position is snapped and thus the mat is not properly secured - ultimately a potential safety risk in case the mat impedes the brake pedal. I'll be bringing it up with the dealer and hopefully get it repaired FOC.

Oh, that and curbing an alloy already! £#@&!

Next steps are to update the maps etc and sort out a couple of tweaks with a Carista :)

Thanks all for the advice.

@dipstick

Did you check to see or ask if the car was rejected.

The dealer got it from BCA but Skoda UK should know if it was rejected, there were Motability cars with 1.5TSI's that have been.

This is early 2018 though.

Yes I asked and the sales rep logged into history of vehicle and said it wasn't rejected, although I didn't see anything with my own eyes.

It was a warm day today so may not have been the right conditions to replicate the kangaroo, but I didn't get any major hesitation or power loss as had been reported by some DSG owners on here. On the day I had no reason not to accept the car and had a faultless 300 mile journey home. Fingers crossed it stays this way.

Congrats on the new car dipstick.

I've only had my 1.5 DSG for nearly 3 weeks but over 1K miles, the DSG seems to behave (so far) with the same characteristics as my Oct VRS did 4 years ago. Although I hate to say it, the auto electronic parking brake seems to be working really well with the DSG. I've never been a fan of electric parking brakes having seen them as a solution to a problem that did not exist. In us though my tune is possibly changing...

We had our Karoq 1.5TSi rejection refused by the dealership ending up costing us nearly three grand when we had to trade it in as we have no second car. So quite few cars out there will have kangaroo engine without having the rejection on its records. We will never ever go back to the west Midlands dealer or any V.A.G. vehicle ever again! Avoid them!!
