Locking wheel nut key

Featured Replies

Yet another issue with my new Karoq. I have locking wheel nuts but no socket key to take them out. Is this yet another part you have to buy seperately?

I know I don't have a spare wheel, just a repair kit but how would I or a mechanic remove the wheel if I wrecked a tyre. THis is not good.

One of the things I check present when collecting new car.

Not sure of its location in a Karoq but it normally is below the boot floor beside the compressor and gunk.

@Rockinghorse

If you can not find where it was at handover and now then best contact the supplying dealer because the Technician or Fitter should have used it to check the locking bolts at the PDI.

Check in the bag with the compressor.. thats where mine was...

Should come with the car - if missing get the dealer to order you one. I bought a 4 year old approved used Citigo and mine was missing, I got the dealer to send me one - bit of a faff sending photos to make sure they got the right one, but I didn't and wouldn't pay a penny extra for it as it is part of the car as far as I'm concerned (only applicable if factory fit locking wheel-nuts obviously)

It's likely to be under the boot floor somewhere. They're often well hidden. I've seen them kept in the glovebox too.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I have searched the car well and it isn't there. My compressor didn't come in a bag but there is a place in the Styrene block beside the compressor where it should have been  ( strangely there was a mark across the aperture in yellow crayon which looks as though it might have been noted missing and marked but not replaced ) The dealer is ordering one but that's not good enough, just shows that the car wasn't properly checked on the PDI, but that's no surprise as the damage which was supposed to have been done had also been forgotten. The biggest worry is that my wheel nuts were obviously not checked either.

@Rockinghorse

Did you have to tell the Dealership person the code so they could get the right one?

?

Is there tweezers there for removing the plastic caps?

No he didn't ask me for it, so I assumed he would get it off the computer. Where would I find the code?

Yes the tweezers were there, which is how I checked the nuts myself.

My 17" Ratikons came with all bolts standard.

The numbers aren’t stored. I imagine they will just fit a new set.

Not sure how many different designs there are, probably not too many as I have seen a tyre centre undo wheels using just a few standard adaptors from a tray of them.  Maybe they were just lucky.

Anyone got any idea how many designs are in use, gives idea of the odds of uniqueness

Dealer has a full set

When I purchased my Yeti back in 2012 as an ex showroom car it had the wrong locking nut adaptor that was discovered when changing tyres. Fortunately at the time I was working only a few hundred yards away from the dealer so managed to get it all sorted, the correct nut adaptor FOC was ordered and delivered 2 days later.

I was a tad worried though as someone in another car would have been able to steal my nuts and that was worrying as I'm quite attached to them.

No damage to fruits  or indehiscent was observed during the making of this post.

I'll get my coat, oh I see you already have it for me.
