Working out brake sizes?

Featured Replies

From what I gather, there are two different sizes for front brake discs? How can you tell what’s on the car?

Or is it model specific? I’ve got a 1.4 petrol

The build sticker in the boot or the inside cover of the service book lists the PR codes for brakes, these will match whats on the car.

If you have FSIII calipers (which I suspect it is) the front brake discs are more than likely 256 mm.

Weeeell, you have 3 disc sizes. For Fabia Junior it was 232mm front discs and 13" wheels (1.2 MPI 8v), all other comes with 256mm front ventilated discs apart from vRS (PD130 TDI) that came with 280mm ventilated discs.

2.0 MPI also came with 288mm discs.

1.2 MPI 8v? The 1.0 came with 232 mm discs.

vRS discs are 288 mm

Haynes makes things ( is it simpler or more difficult ?), as the front brake data depends on engine code. The engine code is listed on the boot sticker/ service manual and on the cam belt plastic  cover .

Haynes lists two types of 1.4 petrol engine ( OHV & DOHC) . I've usually found places  like https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/

can find the right part based on reg no.

Haynes told me that our Fabia has 256mm front discs, it doesn't.

Carparts4less reg number look up offers me 239 and 256 front discs (with none of the PR codes offered matching the car's actual one), plus the suggestion that my car has rear discs, it doesn't.

What's a crying shame is that VW-group often or maybe even always omit the front brake PR code from the data sticker in the car/service book. Not sure why.
