Front Assist

Featured Replies

Hi  new to any form of forum but it was suggested such a community might be able to answer a question I have. I collected my Kodiaq a couple of months ago and am delighted with it. In the last few days it continually shows that the 'front assist' is not available. Is it something that needs to be switched on ? To be honest I'm not sure even what it is.  Any help would be appreciated otherwise I might have to visit the dealer !!

From the owners manual....

Hi  thanks, whilst not a great fan of manuals, I had spotted that and wiped it over. Just wondered whether it was something that had cropped up with other owners.

Looks like a trip to the dealer. Thanks again for your help anyway

I've only seen it when its been snowing heavily! Snow covering the sensor of course.

Mine keeps spotting imaginary trees and face planting me!

"They all do that sir" said the dealer....

Mine did the same in the beginning but there is an option in car settings to adjust the sensitivity. /distance when the assist kicks in. I choosed more mild option and it never has triggered again.

I had this going through roadworks at 40 mph on the way back from Stansted, I presume it’s something to do with not liking the concrete barriers as there was nothing else about (12:30 am) and the weather was dry and clear.

It reset itself soon after leaving the roadworks. The acc wouldn’t work either.CADB9A2F-7997-408F-B627-B4A394DBCA80.thumb.jpeg.4737e90379130ebc106c7a29922d1c36.jpeg

The car is new and the sensor hasn’t been knocked. It hasn’t occurred since.

I’ve sometimes had that happen when driving through tunnels with ACC enabled. I think the radar reflections from the sides of the tunnels can confuse it. The front assist has always re-enabled itself shortly after leaving the tunnel. I found I needed to restart the car to get ACC back.

Never needed to do that in my Kodiaq after the front assist has come back online...

Had a Golf as a hire car a few months ago, and the front assist kept crapping out every few miles. Had to stop/start the car to re-enable it (and the ACC). Gave up in the end.

Some of the topics over in the MkIII Superb forum are concerning, if the ACC radar in the front grill ever gets knocked or for some other reason needs calibrating it is costing hundreds of pounds.

To make matters worse it seems some radars are requiring calibration after (reportedly) not being knocked, and then repeatedly needing re-calibrating again and again.

Skoda seem reluctant to do any re-calibration under warranty using the usual 'it must have been knocked' excuse.

Small off topic: going through the ECU channels with VCDS noticed, that there was an option "front radar heating" somewhere although to my knoledge even VW hasn`t got it?

Very handy in snowy countries.

Is Front Assist what I would know as Lane Assist?

My Kodiaq VRS has a little white symbol on the dash ( a solid bendy line straddled by broken lines) but if I change lanes without indicating there's no tug on the steering wheel to pull me back (as there was on my Octavia VRS and my Focus ST).

Almost like it's not actually functional?

No, front assist uses radar, lane assist camera.

Push a button on right on steering wheel - Assists. There you can tick lane assist and front assist and blind spot and reversing assists if you have ones.

Lane assist could be passive or active - active assistance you can switch on via Car settings. Passive just warns you (with steering wheel, pulls you back) about lanes, active steers you between the lines.

Front assist is standard, lane assist is an option (at least here).

Is it on the top of the display? If so that’s your driving mode.

Check the car carefully, someone might have reversed into it without leaving obvious marks, can you read the fault codes somewhere?

car has been in to the dealers and there is a faulty sensor apparently so got to be booked in for a day, bumper needs to come off and then needs re-setting. My local dealer didn't have the equipment to do this so went to Autosales in Burntwood
