  • Scrap that found a 16 plate Superb 280 yesterday that ticked all the boxes for me. Pick up tomorrow, can't wait.

A Superb is not stable and never intended to operate close to it's maximum speed

Don't really want to feed this but I guess not any people have had the opportunity to run a 280 at near it's max speed for long periods of time as not everyone has the chance to run the car in Germany.

Well I have on many occasions and I can tell you the the car is perfectly stable at 140 mph  and the brakes more than capable of slowing the car when an idiot decides to enter the outside lane without indicating at 60 mph.

Love to have a go at that Phil. Have you managed a max speed run ?

No, I usually bottle out at about 140 mph or run out of road!

There are less and less unlimited runs on the autobahns nowadays and also too much traffic so you have to take it a bit easy.

Max I have seen is a fleeting 250 kph which is 150 mph, car seemed to have plenty left in it although I believe it has a limiter at 155mph,

didn't  I read that someone disabled the limiter and got something like 175 ?

I see the configurator is now showing the facelift model, specced up a new 272 4x4 and got a price of £43,310 ! and that was with the basic Energy Blue, which I quite like.

The Sportline appears to now be available in Race Blue...how dull and unimaginative of Skoda.

That orange Scout looked wonderful ...

Wow, you must have loaded a lot of options on there -- 272 4x4 DSG L&K with no options is £40695 OTR.

Unfortunately the standard L&K Propus Aero wheels look utterly hideous, and the only 18" alternatives aren't much better -- don't want 19" because of worse ride/noise and no all-season tyres available... 😞

I did add most of everything, but the must haves of the sunroof and the tow bar added most of the cost.

Yes, I do not like the Propus wheels, would order something else if buying, this would add more to the cost but i am probably not getting another 280 (272) and will be waiting for the hybrid and may even order a Peugeot 508sw hybrid before Skoda release theirs.

250kph is 155mph...

Is it really! always have the readout set on kph when in Europe, don't look at the mph dial.

I pushed Superb on track from 150-220km/h in turns, car was stable... You need good tyres and DCC set to Sport and it's a sports family car. So I won't discuss this further its simply stupid to talk about it. Cars today are far better engineered than they used to be and the old cars were also on tracks... I love adrenaline and fast cars, obviously superb is not a sports car, but if you want u can safely push it... You don't need to worry about the stability nor brakes (those are also very good and don't overheat easily).

Highway 250km/h+ (on speedo) is just matter of suspension eating up road bumps/imperfections and brakes being able to stop the car fast enough. Aerodynamics on Superb are crazy good compared to old cars... The car is not high so downforce is also good for the car of this size. Meh idk why I'm even posting this...

Now somebody irritating has been banned, can we ignore the "Superb is unstable at 150mph" drivel and keep on the 2020 prices/spec subject? 😉

Possibly, but I can't guarantee it....😜

Unless the 19" tyre size has changed you can get all seasons. I have Vredstein Quatrac 5s on my 19s.

I'm now going to play with the configuramator... (I seem to recall getting a Kodiaq VRS to 50k+ Jeez )

Yup - 52,505 with every option selected. Please excuse the non-PC exclamation but that's mental for a Skoda!

I got new Superb to 44K. And I'm not that picky, Style (SE-L I think it is) DSG, 4x4, 2.0 TDI 190hp, Canton, DCC, Active Screen, Acoustic glass, 17 inch wheels and few small things... For that price, well... I get 1 year used BMW 5 series with pretty much same equipment. Ok its bit unfair comparison (used vs new), but pricing seems really high now. It can easily compare with passat if not higher.

I honestly don't like 19 inch alloys. In fact even my 18's are pretty loud over bumps and U can feel stuff you wouldn't with 17s. I got them only for 235mm tyre width. If I could get 17 inch with 245 or 235 I'd never get 18's :D

42k to replicate my current 280 L&K spec and that doesn't even include the telly (which I think vanished as an option a year or so ago).

How conflicted would you have to be to pick the 280 and then opt for wheelie-bin green with those awful Halfords-style Corsa-mofo wheels?

The problem is the low profile (harsh ride) plus the width (road noise).

If they could rejig wheel sizes to offer 18 or 19 inch with more sensible profiles.....

Anything over 40k list price now attracts 5 years of additional VED (£320 per year extra=£465) in the UK.

No one will be interested in buying one used until its 5 years old, or put another way its going to hit its 2nd hand value for six (far more than the additional VED because private buyers are like that) £465 road tax? No thanks, pass.....

Not to mention I noticed they removed Pegasus from options list... These are by far the best looking wheels on Superb in my eyes. If I would be buying a car now I don't think I'd pick Superb at this time...

I do like some changes though, like new boot lights (for Avant/Combi) these I'd retrofit it wouldn't require changing sidewalls, the ability get LED lights finally (Matrix even), finally all around LED (fogs, reversing, turn signals) and probably some more. Style wise front looks worse in my eyes (I prefer current lights and no chrome around fogs) and rear hmm is bit weird...

Retrofitting matrix LED is probably too expensive to be worth it though... New Bumper (including fogs probably), grille (perhaps?), headlights, maybe some controller? even if no controller is needed, headlights are probably 2000€...
