Unless the 19" tyre size has changed you can get all seasons. I have Vredstein Quatrac 5s on my 19s.

I'm now going to play with the configuramator... (I seem to recall getting a Kodiaq VRS to 50k+ Jeez )

Yup - 52,505 with every option selected. Please excuse the non-PC exclamation but that's mental for a Skoda!

Quatracs are available for the 19" but they're not my preferred tyre, and the Skoda wheel options are still pretty poor -- and I don't want the bigger wheels because of ride/noise/damage...

  • Scrap that found a 16 plate Superb 280 yesterday that ticked all the boxes for me. Pick up tomorrow, can't wait.

Just had a look on the configurator, no manual gearboxes on any engines.

VW also cutting back on manuals too, not sure what my next car will be

I don't think that's final. A lot of people still want a manual in Europe. Though honestly I no longer see point in getting a manual, even though I have one. Automatic is just better in everything...

Manufacturers are reducing or eliminating manual gearboxes because with modern programmable DSG/auto gearboxes the fuel economy can be better than a manual, and they're under pressure to get their fleet economy up. One reason a lot of people don't like auto is higher cost, but bigger volumes should reduce this difference -- plus of course they can't see the cost adder when there's no longer a manual on the price list...

Now somebody irritating has been banned, can we ignore the "Superb is unstable at 150mph" drivel and keep on the 2020 prices/spec subject? 😉

Who was banned been on a 5 star break in the lovely Dominican Republic for the last 2 weeks? Bit hot between 31-34C and 27C at night.:blush

You are vrs-thingyface with his 1 billion HP Octavia. I claim my five pounds :giggle:

You're not wrong about speed though. Only the other day I almost crashed at 50mph. I even had to put down my bag of chips and take my feet off the passenger seat to grab the steering wheel.

Not guilty I was 4,300 miles away and not interested in anything Briskoda. Just had to delete 504 e-mails on my return to the UK yesterday. I will have your £5 bet as you lost.:D

I want a manual, as over 4 years have averaged 56mpg. If 150bhp DSG is getting better then that, please let me know. I’ve had 2 automatics, but just found them boring, as left side of body had nothing to do!!

The Sportline appears to now be available in Race Blue...how dull and unimaginative of Skoda.

I've just seen this on the configurator now and thought a Superb Sportline in Race Blue would look fantastic!

Good point all these DSG loving folk must have really weak left legs as they just dangle under the dashboard with no purpose for them anymore. Perhaps explains why auto loving Americans are so fat?

I don't dispute it wouldn't look good, it's a nice colour.  My point being that the colour choice is so limited and instead of introducing a new colour(s) they've just added one that's been around since 2006.  I also think it would be good if they kept some colours to be vRS/Sportline exclusive and then it wouldn't be so bad that there was only 5-6 colours to choose from, e.g Race Blue, Corrida Red, Meteor Grey.  Likewise some classy metallics being exclusive to the L&K.

I just wish Skoda would add a touch of excitement to their range, whether it be colours or design touches.  They are starting to get a bit boring.  I parked next to a Hyundai i30N in Performance blue, earlier this week and it just looked so much more fun and interesting.  Considering what the Koreans were producing 10 years ago, that's saying something!

If and when I decide to replace the 280 I won't be getting another Skoda unless they stop being 'beige'.

Oi I just got one in beige! Haha

Know what you mean though, the only colour that somewhat interested me when we got the Karoq was petrol blue and even that isn't particularly exciting. That said though I'm not sure I could go for something like dragon green either as it's a bit boy racer. Happy medium would be nice.

I was quite excited when I found that Velvet Red was available, then I want and saw one -- and it basically looks like a flat non-metallic red unless you look from *very* close-up in the sunlight. As a white/beige/silver/grey/black hater, it looks like petrol blue *again*... 😞

Velvet red is by far the most disappointing colour available, bit lighter than Postman Pat red, I struggle to see any metallic or pearl effect and definitely nothing special. Those old red Audi A4s look a nicer colour.

Saw a brilliant silver hatch for the first time the other day, looked stunning as it passed me in bright sunshine, much better than any grey. And the wheels matched the paint which was nice.....

But so much depends on lighting and personal taste.....

Dark red (Maroon) and dark blue (Navy), pearl effect would look classier I suspect.

Hatches look better than any estates in any colour, they always leave me guessing....is it a Superb or an Octavia?

For me I think the Energy Blue is the best colour (not a variation of grey)  you can get in the UK at the moment and it costs no extra!

The old Pacific blue (free) was too nice so Skoda decided to discontinue it and replaced with the most objectionable cheap looking colour they could (Energy blue) in the hope none would order it.

Never understood how White became no longer a free option, its the cheapest paint to produce...

IMO I think VW UK have some say into what colours Skoda are allowed to use, to stop Skoda affecting their sales too much. Maybe look at the Passat palette for comparison.

According to Honest John, we should be using our left foot for braking.

He says that it takes 2 to 3 seconds to transfer your right foot from the accelerator to the brake.

This sort of advice I can do without.

Only racing drivers have the talent and ability to left foot brake consistently and not a good idea on the public road, sure to lead to a nasty accident IMHO.:whew:

The one and only time my Mrs drove my car having never driven an auto before she did a bit of left foot braking.... There is now an extra layer of laminate in my windscreen. Lets call it the 'Scalp Layer'... Now all I have to do is figure out how I can heat it, run a wire into the loom... Hay presto heated screen !

I've got my eye on and fingers crossed they bring the scout to the UK.

£40k though for the 280, my fall back if the scout doesn't materialise, I think I'll pass and go elsewhere.

I think someone needs to proof read the spec brochure again

You mean your car doesn’t have 16 gears ! Personally I went for the 32 gear option....

I went for the manual 16 gear version with 6 valves on my 40 cylinder engine hence the power gains I achieved.:blush

I'm in a quandry, however find me a better value-for-money car for the same price.  I'm struggling to find one!

That's the whole point. Saying "I'm not paying more than £40k for a Skoda when I can get a 1-year old BMW for that" misses the point -- if you want a 1-year old car, pay £25k for a Skoda or £40k for a similarly-equipped BMW, it's your choice. If you want a new car, pay £40k for a Skoda or £55k for a similar BMW/Volvo, it's also your choice.

The BMW/Mercedes solution has more badge snobbery value if you care about that, personally I'd rather have a Q-car which goes like stink but where other drivers don't treat you like a tw*t. And yes I've had all the above, my last car was an E300 and I actually prefer the Superb, there's nothing else that gives you the same space/performance/equipment levels at anywhere near the price.

Which is why my next car will be a TSI272 L&K estate, as soon as Skoda UK get their ar*e in gear and put up the dealer configuration tool so mine can quote me a price... 😞
