Hello all,

I own a 2005 skoda fabia (1.4 petrol) and it's experiencing some brake issues.

The following are the main symptoms:

1. Grinding noise when applying pressure on the brake pedal (only apparent when the brakes get hot)

2. Overall weak performance from the brakes

3. Accelerated wear of the brake pads and the discs

4. Car does not respond to throttle instantly after applying heavy braking. The result is the car remaining stationary then jerking forwards. (Only apparent when the car is hot)

 

Some insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you all.

 

Get it checked over by a competent mechanic.

1. Take the wheels off (not required for certain alloy designs) and inspect the discs for rust in the pad swept areas. Visually check the brake pads because they wear out. NB, even if your specification "has a pad wear sensor" it only acts on one of the 4 front pads, probably the inner left.

3. As above. Also, are the calipers moving freely on the sliders?
4. These cars normally have a sensor which inhibits the throttle when the brakes are applied, so check that the brake pedal returns fully when its released.

If you don't feel competent to do this yourself, at least you have an idea what the mechanic should be doing!
