Is there an update to Infotainment System (5Q0035842A / H24) newer than 0241?

Featured Replies

Bought a second-hand Skoda Fabia a short while back, as my first car after passing my test.  While I'm normally fairly tech-savvy, I'm a bit new to cars and infotainment systems etc.  I've found the service menu by holding down the [Menu] button and can see the software appears to be from April 2015.  I tried the Skoda update website, but it says there is no update available for my VIN.

I don't buy that for a second. that there isn't a newer version after 4 years, but have spent last few hours googling more info or a download link (which brought me to this great forum) but can find very little.

Any of the experts around here able to point me in the right direction? I've attached images below, in case helpful, and feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know updates are only available via dealers. Tbh not sure they really change much other than the odd bug fix so unless you're having problems just forget about it 😎

Thanks @pab567. Am I correct in thinking I can do this by USB stick (FAT32) via the hidden service menu?  Don't have an SD card reader.

Of course you HAVE SD card reader. Open your glovebox and see inside on the left side at the top.

RTFM...

Yeah, I know there is one in the glovebox.   I meant I don't have an SD Card drive on my PC. I have no way at moment to get update onto an SD card.  The service menu listed USB as an option.

Got it :) Yes, you can do it from USB pendrive as well

I'm sure pab567 isn't giving you anything dodgy, but just a warning... joining a forum you've never seen before then installing random files sent to you on the internet is more than a little sketchy. The infotainment controls quite a bit on the car. I'm by no means telling you what to do and I'm not trying to offend anyone, but weigh up the risks before you attempt yourself 😁

Thanks for the concern, though having done a fair bit of searching, I had already seen that @pab567 was considered by many in this forum to be pretty knowledgeable on the topic. I was kinda hoping he would pop in :D

Anyone using 0253? any noticeable changes over 0241?

@pab567 any chance you could send that firmware my way too? I occasionally get CarPlay dying out and crashing the entire infotainment, happens maybe once a month, it either stays dead until the car is shut off, or it restarts itself, or it comes back but wont recognise the phone until both the phone and the car have been turn off then on again 🙃

Thankyou! My car (15 plate) is still on 241, i'll see how the new version goes!

@pab567 So my USB stick was broken, trying an SD card now, i've tried both the 7z itself (which i didn't expect to work anyway), and the contents extracted to the drive, which it says "cannot read version information file".

How are the files supposed to look on the USB for it to recognise properly? I don't seem to be having any luck at the moment 😞

My part no. is 5Q0035842A same as the OP on SW 241 also.

Edit: Never mind, i found i had to put the contents of the 7z in the base of the drive, making sure metainfo2 and all the many folders were there and not in any other folder.

Exactly :) So I guess you have updated your unit?

I have indeed, it seems to be a bit more responsive with no little freezes and glitches, time will tell i suppose. I wonder if there is any more recent version? Googling the filename brings up a list of other versions which have higher numbers still, though i guess those are for different 5Q0xxxxxx numbers though?

Please excuse me if I am hijacking this thread, and Admin please move to a new thread if you feel that is appropriate. I am a bit confused: my Fabia is also a 15-plate (SE-L Combi), but the Bolero unit appears to be older than the op's: it shows the part number as 5Q0035820, and software version as 0138. It was serviced by the local main dealer for the first three annual services, so I would have assumed (stupidly?) that they would have installed any software or firmware updates necessary.

Having said which, would the previously-mentioned 0253 update be correct for my unit, or is there a different one, and would some kind person (wink, wink) be able to send it to me?

Thanks in advance!

@pab567

Thanks for helping out so many. Could I get the latest for 5Q0035842A, H24?

Also where do we find the changelogs?

There's no update available for that model of head unit (so i've read on this forum at least).

I just read your pm, it seemed to improve the responsiveness of the head-unit, mostly when using car-play, the previous version it would occasionally get stuck in a connect/disconnect loop until i restarted both the phone and turned the car off for 10-15 mins to make the head-unit fully reboot, haven't had that issue a single time since.

Now i'm left wondering if there's updated radio station logos available or something.

Unfortunately you can NOT upgrade 01xx software to any other than 01xx and 0138 is the lastes I know for MY15. The only possibility to get it is to replace the unit.

Got it, thanks!

Do you know if there's anywhere to find a changelog?
