Long-term users of Dogbone inserts - advice please!

Featured Replies

Quick question for those that have fitted their own.

I'm planning to use my ramps to get the front in the air, is that likely to cause an issues with putting the bolt back in, i.e. will the nose up angle cause the engine to move backwards and so move the bolt out of alignment when putting it back in again?

Thanks.

I used axle stands when I did mine which would provide a similar lift (maybe not quite as much as ramps though).  Just make sure you put it in neutral first.  I watched a vid of someone doing it on a dsg with it in Park and they had sorts of issues until they put it in N and it went straight in.

Hi all.

I felt the famous wheel hop last night and it really bummed me .....

Looking to improve that now ....

what would ppl have to say of stainless vs ally vs hybrid vs full poly ?

Stainless:

Ally

Hybrid

Poly

I am tempted to go hybrid one .... it should reduce the craking/bending the aluminium ones seem to be prone to due to extra "give" on the polyurethane and hopefully reduce cabin vibration too ?

Or maybe just go full Poly ?

@gon I went Powerflex hybrid after my 034 mount bent, and you only notice vibration when reversing up a hill or when stationary and the thermo fans come on which is not often.

Just a side note, lower control arm bushes did a lot more to get rid of wheel hop than the dogbone mount ever did. But they are a pita to install.

I'm considering getting the powerflex hybrid one as opposed to the insert as it gets rid of more of the rubber. It's on the list of things to do.

I've seen a few reviews with the 034 one; all with different opinions. Some say it gives a bit and then you potentially readjust it and other saying they're too prone to warping. If I was going to choose a metal one, I'd go for a steel one. It's got, more often than not, more tensile strength.

Not heard many on here using the hybrid. I'll be going for a steel one when I next have the car inspected as a preventative measure anyway.

The additional NVH is nothing when the OEM car is so mild and wallowy anyway :) - those with princess-and-pea bums as I've said before may notice a difference, but it's really nothing to worry about in most installations for the TSIs.

TDIs may be different, as a few have discussed.
