Aussie Superb Sportline - Auto High Beam?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone

The Aussie Superb Sportlines don't come equipped with the Auto High Beam function - although they do have Corner Assist and Auto Leveling activated.

To get Auto High Beam function - is it as easy as activating it in VCDS? Or do the headlight assemblies not have the required hardware to do Auto High Beam in Australia?

Cheers!

What sort of headlights are fitted? Halogen, LED, Xenon?

If one of the last two options then I'd be surprised if the functionality you refer to is not present, although I have always thought of it as 'Auto-dipping'

Other than that, you would have to be some sort of light sensor fitted to detect oncoming traffic headlights. Didn't think it was in the headlight assembly though.

Xenon + LED however I've confirmed the Aussie headlight components don't have the necessary motors to drive the full Smart Light Assist, only High Beam Assist.

Do you have lane assist or traffic sign recognition? ie; do you have the forward facing camera which is located just behind the rear view mirror?

You’ll need this and then yes, the coding shouldn’t be too difficult (or it hadn’t been in the cars I’ve had it done)

I think its just not enabled in software. If you have the Tech Pack, then you get the fully motorized and shuttered Xeon lights.

He has all that. Same as me. But no traffic sign recognition or High Beam assist. Its switched off in SW I am sure. Not sure why, probably legal.

The lights have motorized shutters for Low and High beam. They angle up/down left/right with load and cornering, So all the components are there and working.

The models here have Lane Assist yes but not Traffic Sign recognition. It's been coded off apparently.

We are apparently limited here by the hardware of the headlights. The don't have the eyelashes and the motors to cover the lights etc.

So we can get auto high beams but not the Smart Light Assist

Are you sure? I see the shutter moving when you start up the car at night and they cycle to calibrate. The beam is shaped by it and it changes depending on what side of the road you set as the driving side in the options.

I don't see anything here that our lights can't do

Apparently. There's a user on Facebook that has to change his headlight assembly and do a couple of other things to activate the Smart Light Assist.

I see the auto leveling and the cornering light functionality too

Might be worth checking the part numbers.

Aussie bound Superbs do NOT have Smart Light Assist (SLA) capability.

They do not have the hardware in the headlights, nor do they have the correct parameters.

U can not simple "enable" it by coding.

They come with version A headlights (Bi-xenon with AFS), which can have HBA enabled at best.

If u want the next level up, i.e. SLA, then u need version B headlights, different AFS slave modules, coding, and a different parameter file for the 4B multi-function module.

I've recently retrofitted SLA to my Superb MY17.

There is a thread here which I've explained the process.

Hey guys, dont get confused between light assist and smart light. If you have bi zenon then you have AFS which is what changes the light pattern and you see the dance on start up.

You can add light assist which is the simple auto switch between high and low. Smart light assist is a different assembly altogether and is the unit with 'shadow' technology where full beam is on all the time and the area is adjusted to blank out sections. There is a thread on here from one of your compatriots who has retro fitted the smart assist headlamp assembly.

Morning JR.  There I was typing and you arrived first🤤

Thanks guys yeah checked my MY18.5 Aussie Sportline and it had the A headlights.

Will just get an OBD11 and activate High Beam Assist.

So was this thread about SLA or HBA???  I'm confused 🤣

(I thought HBA but then it escalated...)

17/02/2015 Press Release:

Innovative lighting systems significantly increase safety at night.

The front headlights are fitted with halogen technology or with bi-xenon lamps including AFS function and LED daytime running lights.

As an option, the high beam can be controlled electronically – via Light Assist or the advanced Smart Light Assist function (masked high beam).

The automatic use of high beam is controlled by the optional Light Assist.

This system is available in two versions for the new ŠKODA Superb: as the standard Light Assist and as the enhanced top version Smart Light Assist.

The latter, also called masked high beam, is a first for a ŠKODA model.

17/02/2015 Press Release:

Smart Light Assist provides improved safety through optimum illumination in all traffic situations.

The system includes dynamic angle adjustment and masked high beam.
The multi-function camera recognises oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead in darkness and Smart Light Assist automatically dips the beam specifically in these areas.

Instead of automatically switching high beam off, the new technology is selective.

This means, it is always possible to drive with high beam and take advantage of its long reach without dazzling other drivers or oncoming vehicles.
The system works by relaying the light sources recognised by the camera to the control unit which, based on this information, calculates the required headlight steering signals.
A cylinder, which is integrated into the central module of the headlights, controls the light distribution depending on the situation.

If necessary, a ‘mask’ is projected onto the road in the area of the vehicle ahead or of oncoming vehicles. Full light intensity and maximum reach of the beam are maintained around the masked areas.

Sorry that was my fault- I was talking about Smart Light Assist, not Auto High Beam. Got the terminology wrong.

So it seems Auto High Beam is available via OBD11 on the Aussie Sportlines, but not Smart Light Assist.
