I'd be interested to hear people opinions on fitting and the use of them.

Would one be sufficient or would you need 2 ?

Yeah I'd like one of those, If they sell them single to fit the Octavia 2 one assumes they are strong enough ??

How do we get hold of them, anyone in this country sell them ????

http://www.jhmbuttco.com/ looks like they sell Milotec stuff in the UK. I dunno how much postage would be to Ireland.

Looks interesting, but I would need some questions answered and guarantees given before buying this product.

1: Does this product require any holes being drilled to make it fit? If it does then you have an immediate potential source of rust corrosion and how would that effect the vehicles anti-corrosion warranty.

2: This Octavia hood is a large heavy lump so will a single strut take that weight especially with say a strong wind blowing against the hood?

3: What is the guaranteed life of this strut an awful lot of tailgate struts rapidly loose their holding powers and people resort to a piece of wood to hold them open?

Good idea in principal, but we need more info.

Vectra Gsi 3.2 hood is as big and quite happy with one lifter.

I'd be interested in getting one and have seen the one mentioned on Milotec's website. I think that "Roo" has bought one but I'm not sure if he's fitted it yet, be interested to find out his thoughts before going ahead.

Id have one providing no drilling is required.

I think AAT do them. Maybe you could set up some sort of group buy.

could you use the one from the mk5 golf?

DON'T BUY ONE DIRECT FROM MILOTEC!!!

I ordered one of these in October, paid them the correct amount how they asked and I waited.

and waited

and waited.

I got an email asking about the payment any replied that it was sent. They then asked for the rest of it.

When I asked them what they was on about they said that they were missing

More info from Butts for those interested.

"I have got the props on my desk at the moment and the instructions (which are in English - a surprise for Skoda parts!) look pretty straight forward - fitting time approx 15 minutes it says. It's just a matter of screwing them in. It will take two of you to fit them (obviously one of you to hold the hood up!) and you will need a Torx 45 or size 13.

I am not very technical but I think even I would have a go at fitting these myself."

There is so litle need to open the bonnet that I can't see why anyone would spend any money on hood lifters!

Apart from filling the windscreen wash once a month or so and checking the oil occasionally - the level on my 2.0 Tdi hasn't changed since the mileage went over 3,000 - why would you want to open the hood?

One thing that was mentioned to me was the possibility of the bonnet holder falling down if not secured properly and damaging the paint. I find it strange that it wasn't designed to lift out of the engine bay and secure into the bonnet (there must be some reason for it)

My old Passat had them, it was always a pleasure to open the bonnet.

All you needed to do was to lift it a couple of inches and the gas strut did the rest.

None of the messing about I have now with the Octy.

Rally Nuts do the Bonrath lifters at less than these for the mk 1 Octy ,have a set on order waiting delivery ( 2 per set )

Folks, There's an outfit in Daventry Milotec told me about. They have ordered me one at the

It costs more because of the obvious reasons of the import cost (customs take a bit in import duty let alone the cost of bringing in 1 small item) plus they have to make a few quid out of it themselves so that sounds about right to me. The Milotec delivered price is around £80 anyway.

Have you got/fitted yours yet Roo?.

Nope got my money back in the end because of al the problems. I may get them through Buttcos now, less hassle dealing with a UK company
