Cars v Bikes

Featured Replies

Personally motorbikes bore the $h1t out of me, especially when you get the bikers spurting all that nonsense about 'my bike is faster than a your car' cr@p. For me four wheels is a more interesting place where styling and performance plays more of a part in the real world.

Consider that

I would like to experience the acceleration of a bike, but it would end there. Living in Scarborough, we have an influx of bikes in the summer - especially in bike week - and some look and sound great. The riders though can give the whole bike scene a bad name. Coming home on a Sunday back to Scarborough with the day trippers going the opposite way, we have has some close calls as they fly down the outside of the slow moving traffic assuming that we will move out of there way. I have seen a few times the aftermath when someone didn't move out of their way and I'd rather have been in the car. Not all of them are arrogant and reckless, but fewer car drivers behave in the same way I'm sure.

Couldn't have put it better myself mate

They don't half get irritated when they blast past you on a twisty road, and you stick behind them theron after, in a diesel shopping car. :D

That aside, one or two bikes, despite my total lack of knowledge or interest in them do stand out. Those Ducatti things, red they are. Look evil in a good way.

And black bikes with led rear lights, that spit flames out look pretty good.

Generally, styling wise, they look best when they have the side of a car stuck to the handlebars. :D

...........I would like to experience the acceleration of a bike,

You experience very similar acceleration to that of a bike in the relative safety of a four wheeled machine namely the Ariel Atom. The great JC experienced his face being distorted the last series of TG.

I had a guy behind me last night on what I call a sit-up-and-beg motorbike (not a sports bike). He was stupidly close behind me so I washed the windscreen  Works a treat for forcing them to drop back ;)

I agree Ducatti's do look nice and generally they (all sports bikes) look like nice bits of engineeering.

Scary that you can get Ferrari performance for mid level Skoda money, but I would kill myself if I ever bought a bike, on the same lines as skinnyman, seen too many riders on bonnets on the Hull Scarborough road.

Shifty's headlight washers would totally soak any poor biker following him

The screen wash trick workd best with kids on those annoying low CC things - they can tcatch you to kick your door and sometimes they have open faced helmets

And that's exactly what it is. Cars are faster in the real world than ANY bike, in ANY category. they're safer as well and there's much more things to do in a car. ;)

I like cars and bikes, but after reliving my youth about 13 years ago with another bike I wouldn't have another one, just didn't enjoy it.

The roads are too busy and too badly maintained for biking these days, although the thought of a wee scooter for going to work on has a certain appeal.

Neil

No contest whatsoever, a decent bike especially £4£ will wipe the floor with even the most special of production cars, however throw in a decent driver and a few tight bends and the gap narrows!!! Having ridden bikes for well in excess of 20 years, including many sports and supersports bikes, done the trackdays, the TT, the Nurburgring and toured most of Europe I feel a little qulaified to make the aforementioned statement.

All IMHO of course.........As a group of people you'll find car and bike enthusiasts are very very similar........keen to accesorise, often the tackier the better, bull5hit & decent advice in equal measures.

With regards to the 'bad rider' debate, yep there are many bad riders....however IMO there are are far more bad drivers.....spend 3 months riding a bike and I bet you'd agree.

Any tips for getting the Burberry cap to sit on a helmet.

A crash helmet that is,:)

Cage Driver for 20 + years. Looking at actually doing the mid life crisis thing and getting a bike - going through the motions now (as most are aware).

Yes a car is safer and yes weather does play a part. Having grown up in Scarborough - yes I know the biker thing.

It also scares me to see riders brag about speed 130 Mph on public roads - suicidal. And Murder for other innocents.

If it's between car and bike - car any day. Bikes are suitable for weekends - away from the crowds - never seen the attraction of biker meets. Also track days. But so are cars.

From a practical perspective car wins every time but I want my cake and eat it.

And who care what is faster. The most you can drive in the UK is 70mph. Acceleration time helps but my Furby VRS is as fast as I need.

Fifth gear last night.Repeat of the races.Lambo v motorbike.

Did you see how hard it was for the biker to keep the front wheel down when accelerating?

I thought the bike would have obliterated the car.It didn't.

Simple , put the lid half way on , then put the baseball cap on through the front of the crash helmet before pulling it down

What bike did they use?

Well, I ride a Kawasaki ZZR1200 and drive an Octy vRS so does that make me a

moron?

vRSLen, I'd like to think no-one is referring to us as 'morons'

I think they are trying to wrestle with their non-understanding of what attracts us to enjoying riding bikes.

What bike did they use?

Ducati 999.

From what I know of Anglesey it's a fairly small track with tight turns best suited to an agile car and not a bike.

On somewhere like donington thats more suited to bikes I'd expect the bike to have a bigger advantage.

If we are talking road driving then cars are much easier to drive rapidly

Very astute observations Dr.

  , yeah right

Some of the opinions on this thread make me laugh....

There's a lot of nonsense about how bikes are a bad idea -from a group of blokes who unnecessarily spend money hotting-up family cars! (myself included, I hasten to add....)

I'd like a bike.

If they bore the **** out of you, then you have never ridden a "proper" one mate.

There is pretty much nothing out there that can offer the same bang for bucks performance wise.

4 wheels, for me is not even remotely interesting when compared to the bikes, car's are a necessity of business for me, so I have ordered an Octy 2 vRS to make the mundane business trips a little more interesting, and driving what some may regard as a "remarkable" car simply can not compare to a fast lap around cadwell or a bit of knee down on the cat and fiddle.

Every time someone does a car v bikes thing it get's out of hand, every time a mag tests cars v bikes there is a level of bias in the testing. Your statement of bikes being boring is just nonsense. Harleys are boring, bikes are fun.

let's all just hug and get along

Oh, and my bike is faster than your car :D :D
