Wow, what a difference...

Recommended Posts

Today I decided to brave the perils of removing the glove box to replace the pollen filter. Having sworn several times I managed to get it free... taking out the old filter I was very surprised as to how dirty it was, I then had a bit of a shock as it was clear that the last time it was replaced, by a main dealer about 2 years ago, it was clearly put in upside down. All the dirt, bits of grit etc was sitting on top of the filter, as you would expect, however the airflow arrows were pointing up, when clearly the inflow of air is down, hence the top of the filter catching the debris. Anyway, new one in the right way, and I can already feel the difference with the aircon, the flow is colder and stronger. And as an aside I finally got round to fitting the hard wire for my dash cam, much much easier than I thought, took all of 10 mins taking the feed off fuse 47 on a piggyback. Anyway the biggest buggeration was getting the glove box back in. Took more than half an hour and in the end I gave up with the little damper rod.... will do it some other time.

I fitted my dashcam last week and agree the glovebox removal is a pain as well as a bad design.  I found it easier to tape the fitting where it goes into the glovebox cover in place then pull out the damper rod as far as it will go.  Getting the other end of the rod onto it's clip in the glovebox housing was much easier.  Then remove the tape.

Isn't it poor that the dealer fitted the pollen filter upside down?  How hard can replacing the filter correctly be for professional mechanics?  Too hard it seems.

Nice to see the general public having more skill with Skoda cars than the actual technicians.

After an aircon service last year, I found both filler and drain caps that screw onto the aircon feed points, rattling about on the windscreen scuttle.

They also got the paperwork wrong for servicing and the MOT.

I'm really enjoying the Hyundai Ioniq with 5 year warranty, and the 72 MPG is nice as well.

As per another thread, I hardwired my dash cam this weekend. After faffing with the damper for a lifetime ( I've no patience, it was 10 minutes really) I taped it roughly in position and found I could easily get my finger up the back of the glovebox to latch the damper onto its clip thingy.

Unfortunately I have no patience... after several goes I was about to have a bit of a strop. Still, I don’t use the glovebox often, so all I need to remember is to be gentle.. re the filter, it does seem strange that even with arrows to indicate the flow of air, and being quite obvious that the fan is below the filter, someone still gets it wrong.. it makes you wonder what else has been affected by the same slapdash attitude..

Wouldn't put the blame too much on whoever inserted the filter, we're human - we all make mistakes.

Where I would put the blame is on the designers - would be very simple to make it impossible to fit the filter the wrong way round. Not so simply clever then.

I've seen and experienced too many 'mistakes' at dealership / branded garages than at specialist or tuning garages where they seem to have more passion and focus for doing the job. Hence I'll happily pay a premium on having work done at such places, rather than experience the multitude of issues on here as documented by many a Brisky member.

Sounds like they don't get taught Poka-yoke in Czech?

You have to remove the glovebox to replace the pollen filter? What a crap piece of design

You have to do something similar, or worse, on most cars.

The Octavia is one of the easiest cars to replace a pollen filter on.
