Start up noise on 206kw sportline

Featured Replies

Hello, James. I gather New Zealand is quite similar to the Scottish Highlands, but without the midges? We are both very lucky.

My car has been making the same chirping noise as yours on the first start-up of the day for the last couple of years or so. I was wondering if the new oil pump cured it permanently for you, or has there been a return? If it did properly fix it, was it an expensive job?

Best wishes, David.

Haha, the noise is gone since the new oil pump been put in and noise hasn't come back yet, fingers crossed it won't. Its a warranty job so no idea how much it would cost otherwise.

Thanks for that, James. Mine is going to Edinburgh for a service next week, so I'll tell them your story and see what they'll do.

Is your car still under warranty? Best thing I think I should do is to record the sound and show them. See what they say. So skoda thinks it's a one way valve in the pump that failed or something. So when the car parked up overnight, the oil drained. That's what makes the noise. Coz when I first got the car, it didn't make the noise. Then it started and the buzzing noise got more and more. Hope yours is still under warranty. But if yours been doing it for a few years, I guess it doesn't do any damage to the car.

Thanks for the extra information. The car is out of warranty now, but I've learned not to trouble Skoda dealers with anything important and am using an independent specialist now. They heard the noise at last year's service and didn't seem too concerned, but now I'll pass your experience on to them and see what they say.
