Always but if I remember it has different modes of operation depending on the speed you are travelling.

This has only ever happened once to me when a plastic bag flew in my way

Its' defo a scary moment to say the least ....

Glad everyone is okay....

Good look with the dealers as well, even the ACC is not covered under warranty if it looses it's calibration........which is just poor 😞

Had this at Christmas with a Vauxhall Grandland X hire car.  Unfortunately, the guy behind ended up with his nearly new Golf rammed up the back, almost writing it off.  Vauxhall had two tiny holes in the plastic bumper and a loose piece of trim that I pushed back on.  I'd just come off a roundabout and was in the "acceleration" zone when I found myself braking hard, then again breaking very hard, then Crump. Couldn't work out why I'd braked until I got home and saw that it was fitted with emergency braking. Poor chap behind gets the entire blame, according to the Highway Code.

Not to be confused with the ACC cruise control braking, which is comparatively mild. This happens when the car you are following peels off and brakes, and can be anticipated (give it some extra accelerator).  That system "locks on" to the car in front and follows it when it leaves the carriageway, and won't just pick up random cars in the exit lane.

I'm narrowing down my choices for my next car. Can this system be deactivated permanently?

Got the car back from the dealer. Was told there were some 'false' readings and a software update should fix it. Time will tell.

No charge, car is March 2019.

@harrylime Yes, you can untick the Front Assist in the MaxiDOT. ;)
