Oil Service Warning

Featured Replies

Evening All,

I think I know the answer to this question but I'm gonna act like a div as post it anyway as I am not up on the mechanical side of things and basically do what ever my car tells me

My last Service was  24th November 2018

I have driven approx 20% more miles this year due to work (Leeds to Luterworth and back a few times a week is do BORING)

My Oil Service 1000miles to go message cropped up today

I'll need to check the invoice but 3 months earlier than planned it appeared today, I assume the oil was changed at the last service (it was £175.00 from DM Keith, I can remember the figure but can't remember if that was interim or major Service, it had around 35k on the clock, now it has 45k on the  clock,  Reg, November 2015)

So the question is

Take it in for an oil change and a minor service in November  or

Just do a Major Service Now ?

It's late and I've driven 200miles today and obliviously want to get it booked in as the messages will annoy in about 2 days......so I assume just do a Major Service and be done with it ..

Also at 45k , when should I think about getting the DSG Serviced at a specialist, from memory its around the 65 -70k mark ?

Did you ask them to leave your cars service interval on Fixed Service last year so 9,400 miles / 372 days?

Your car could have been on Variable / Flexible servicing if you had wanted.

*******The DSG Service Interval is @ 40,000 miles, so you are over that.*******  £189

If you are paying for a Major Service, tell them you want the Air Filter and Fuel Filter changed, & you are not paying to have stuff not done.

?

Was the Brake Fluid changed last year? That is another £60.

Hey @Roottootemoot

Its in Variable Service but I get it Serviced annually as a rule of thumb. Generally the Service Indicator Warning pops up after 11.5 months of use (last 2 times it was 2 weeks earlier than the previous service). I have covered more miles than anticipated this year so that date has been brought forward I would have assumed

Brake Fluid was changed last year for the £60 charge

The Breakpads are still the original, when it was checked over when under going some maintenance to the suspension bushes DM Keith provide a quick 2 min video of high level wear and tear. The brakes were not mentioned but I am prepared for the pads to be changed

I asked about the DGS when I was booking it in today at DM Keith (Leeds) for next Weds and they advised they couldnt tell me if the DSG needed servicing until they looked at it as it can be either sealed or not ssealed. Bit bemused  by this one, I assume they have used the same DGS since the MK3 came along I doubt that any 2 cars differed of the same age/model version.

Its booked in for a Major Service and they will provide a Print Out of the Service which does have the independent VAG Specialists on there, so all good  on that point.

£289 lighter but, such is life :)

@Zenbasses

LOL @ the DSG bit.

Was this a Desk Jockey that was clueless on your actual type of DSG?

These muppets are unbelievable but employed because of the lack of knowledge of cars.

I spoke to the Service Department , just plain weird.com I did mention it was a V3 on a 65 Plate and it was a 6 Speed DSG without paddle shifts, 190BHP......didnt know ....

Go figure ..!!

I can't be bothered to find if there is a drainage hole or not .. it will be , whatever it will be and it will be done :)

Sorry @Zenbasses, I missed this one. A couple of alarm bells are ringing. If your car is on variable, the time limit is two years, not one. So you shouldn't be seeing a message. That makes me suspicious that they have put it onto fixed, as @Roottootemoot suggested. Worth checking out when you take it in.

Ref DSG, I have a (possibly wrong) memory in my head that the oil should be changed at 40k. I'm sure someone will correct me if I got that wrong.

6 & 7 speed wet clutch DSG have been @ 40,000 miles,  and 38,000 miles if in an Audi, because they are special, called s-tronic.  Still just a DSG obviously.

7 Speed DQ200 DSG no Service Interval, sealed, except when you unseal like at VW Group Service Campaigns.

Recently a question was asked on some 7 Speed Wets, and the answer has come back on 80,000 mile intervals on some.

Still to be confirmed officially,  More Skoda / VW Dealership confusion for years to come.

EDIT,  re DQ380

This Variable or Fixed regime eludes me. When I bought my Roomster new it had a Variable servicing sticker on the dash surface which closes on the driver's door. At approx 9400 miles, 15 months later up came the Oil change indicator. The oil was changed and then another 9400 miles and a further 15 months the service indicator showed for its first minor service.  In May 2018 it had its first major service at 27k miles. The technician programmed it for a Variable service as per the sticker and since I have only driven 7500 miles. Looking at the display tonight it shows 158 days or 8500 miles until my next service. That means it falls short of the 2 years or 20k miles.  Perhaps the engine management system determines the optimum servicing intervals and shortens the service date accordingly depending upon how the vehicle is driven.

@edbostan

Is this the 1.2 TSI?

It is never going to be 20,000 miles with it on Variable. More likely 18,500 and that will not be dropping in miles, just 24 months or 18,500 likely if the Service Indicator is set correctly on Variable and no Inspection Interval still after 9,400 miles / 372 days. (One year and one week.)

9,400 miles and 15 months is strange to happen.

If only Skoda bothered to clearly explain.

Yes it is the 1.2 tsi. Only had one Inspection notice come up after a month after the first oil change. I took it back to the dealer and he cancelled it. I have never had since.

In the UK, if correctly programmed, variable interval is set to 18,600 miles (30,000km) max and 744 days (2years, 2 weeks) max. If your driving habits,excessive cold starts,short distances, and a hundred other variables worry the ECU, it can dial down those figures to as little as 9300miles/1 year.

@xman

Have you ever seen a car set on Variable Service worried down to a fixed service interval period?

Which particular engines were these and from what year?

I have known plenty cars that are used abused and only do short runs and go 2 years until the service warning comes up.

Yes, I have! Our 61 plate Octavia 1.2tsi (cam chain), it was filled with Platinum (502) instead of Longlife III by cunning Skoda staff, within 2 weeks and less than 1000 miles driving the indictor had rattled down from 18,600 to 13,000 miles and dropped daily by many times the driven distance.

Car normally went to between 17,000-18,600 miles between service indicator calling for service.

Returned the car for the usual tiresome *******ing of the service staff (one of which got fired shortly afterwards), new proper oil and filter and normal variable service was resumed.

Strong evidence for the oil quality sensor in this car detecting non 504 oil

But I know what you're getting at, with the release of EA211 and EA888 gen 3 engines, maybe the diesels too, they seem to have reverted to fixed or variable but really fixed twice as long regimes and no expensive oil quality sensor.

Perhaps they should change the name to Private owner/Fleet or arkward owner service regime.

It makes no difference to me what you believe, the wrong oil and what happened with the service indicator set to variable/ QG1, I witnessed with my own eyes, and monitored over 2 weeks. Garage when confronted, admitted they used the wrong oil.

As for the DSG info, I did stress in my posts that my dealer checked with their service mangager when I was about to place an order for a new Superb and that was the information I was given. I did question its validity, but ordered a manual anyway. I never stated it was fact, merely my dealer stated it as a fact.

You can get really annoying sometimes rooty, but then thats possibily because you're scottish ;)

I remember every thread and post.

The one where you were told the car was registered before it was in the country, where you said that a car can not be MOT'd one month early.

Its just annoying when someone never really checks or knows what they are saying and never corrects what they say or says, sorry i was talking sharn.

Wtf you talking about?

Gone off on a bender?

@xman @Roottootemoot

I'm looking at this from a perspective that most people know a lot more about the intricacies of the ICE than me so tend not to get too involved with the in depth discussions carried out by other knowledgeable members.

So, and with that in mind, let's remember that no one is intentionally giving out incorrect information and what has been previously said, may well be correct for different engines or different cars etc.

The main thing is that collectively we try to assist in the best way possible without getting entangled in side issues. :thumbup:

George often turns up whenever I try to give, in good faith, practical technical advice and disses me and most everyone else.

His posts have often been aggressive and many have been irrelevant or misleading.

He keeps reposting some old posts as if it gives him some authority to his latest unrelated rant.

His accusation that I post stuff that I never have and so give the impression to other members that all my technical contributions are worth squat is the final straw.

Sadly, therefore I have decided to finally leave Briskoda and will no longer post in any of the forums.

Goodbye to all and sundry.

I often put @xman in a post where i have no knowledge on the subject other than having seen it in your posts and the post is being ignored,

that is to catch your attention so you can help the poster on the question because you know the answers on the engines and issues they are asking about.

Sorry you see it another way, but so be it.
