I’ve just fitted a bosal 038013. With a ecs VW-190-H1 cable set. Also a ecs SP-135-ZZ extension kit. All fitted very well. Total cost was 380 euro’s. And about 8 hours of work.

Took coding from here.

Hello thanks for the reply. Did you have to make a bumper cut for where the OEM towbar would be or a different cut?

Thanks for he photo.

Different cut.

Easily done.

Hi, I managed to put in an after market tow bar. I paid about £600. It's a Westphalia detachable. I'll get some photos at the weekend. Very easy to put on when needed. Coding was done at the same time so parking sensors are disabled and the dash displays a caravan when reversing.

pf jones offer some good deals.

Hello all,

Can I ask advice re PF Jones. Has anyone used their service / fitting ?

I am considering the removable Swan Neck fitting with 13 pin model specific wiring.

I can get it for about £700 fitted at home.

My worry is model specific fitting only covers MkIII Estate, no mention of up market model with all the sensors etc.

The reason I ask is I have saved long & hard to get the car in the spec I wanted.

Its a 2019 Superb Estate L&K 2.0 DGT it’s got lots of extras, which I wanted, self park, all the usual sensors, inc virtual pedal for boot opening.

Does anyone know if fitting it would in anyway invalidate the warranty ? I would be sick to death having searched for the model in the colour I wanted, to find that the warranty was voided due to fitting a tow bar - if that was the case the folding camper which I intend to tow could stay in the garage until the car is out of warranty.

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

Why not ask your dealer how much to have a towbar fitted? They’ll just use their regular towbar fitter to do it. Think you’ll find it will be the same sort of price.

Here are the photos of a Westphalia fitted detachable tow bar. Before and after. Max limit on files per post means I'll have to post for each image.

Thanks very much for the images. Went to dealer they wanted £2001 to fit. I told them I didn’t want the full VAG kit. They said this wasn’t even the electric one just the standard with full electrics. Told them I was happy with a fitter using a bypass relay and they said they only fit genuine ŠKODA parts. Needles to say I won’t be using them.

I feel capable of fitting it myself. Certainly feel confided with the electrics. I’m feared to take the bumper off incase I can’t get it to go back on 100%. That would really annoy me if it was hanging out a tiny bit. Never had a bumper off a car before so there’s where my uncertainty comes from. Can’t see any video of rear bumper removal either. Unless someone had come across any??

once again thanks for the photos.

Does your 13pin socket just swivel down? Also was it one cut only in bumper or 2 inc a 90 degree bend?

cheers

I watched the guys do the fit. The bumper was off immediately after dropping the car off. The bumper cut seems to be one cut. Yes, the plug drops down, so it tucked away when not used. As you can see it's not visible when not in use.

I had a bypass relay on my 15 plate octavia. I would not recommend. As the audible warning when indicating was annoying. Now, when I indicate the car displays a second indicator. This is a legal requirement I believe, either an audible or viable during indicating. That's what the tow bar instalation guys said. So if you can connect to the bars relay, I would recommend.

I wanted to add, the guys that fitted my tow bar are also contracted to do tow bar fitting by the local Reading Skoda dealer. You may find that is normal, dealers rarely do this work and contract out. You'd never know. So I managed to cut out the middle man. I ended up getting the same tow bar fitted as I would have if I had gone to Reading Skoda. At half the price.
