Driving in France , changing headlights direction

Featured Replies

Due to travel in a few months through France , had a look in my manual could not find anything. Can one change or do i just get the Tempory plastic bits to stick on . Car is a late 2017 SEL  model with the adaptive headlights. Thanks

If you have satnav then it will adjust the headlights automatically. If not then you can change manually in car settings-lights-R or L traffic

That's the theory. I have yet to see it do it. I find that it won't even change time zones let alone the damned headlights.

The easiest way is via the infotainment system and lights menu.

Is this thread any good to you.?

Also make sure you may want to disable the sat nav speed camera notifications ,displayed and audible, if caught there's a heavy fine. Presume the satnav is checked if in accident or stopped for any reason.

For some years now it is has been strictly forbidden under article R413-15 of the French 'Code de la Route' (highway code) to have a speed camera detector in a car in France, regardless of whether or not it is being used. Penalties can include fines of up to €1,500, confiscation of the device and of the vehicle.16 Feb 2012

Like to see them try and remove either a Columbus or Admunsen from the car.

There is a way around it and that is to have them marked as "Danger Zones" which is how certain camera database sites have been getting around it to an extent. However the legality of it could be described as dubious.

Dont be concerned with it, like almost all laws in France the potential fine results in as close to 100% compliance as is possible and no manpower is put into detection and enforcement, there was never any intention of doing so.

In fact they would get 99% compliance even if the fine were €5 or zero, the massive fines are just sound bites which are never forgotten, and the average French person likes nothing better than sermonising you for not stopping for 5 seconds at a stop junction or any other petty infraction that he himsef does many times a day whilst wagging his finger and telling you that you will be fined €1500 and go to prison for up to 10 years.

There is no need for enforcement.
