Cleaning Xtreme 19 Black

Featured Replies

I gave my new VRS its first wash today and couldn't get the alloys looking as clean as when I picked the car up.

Granted that I didn't use any alloy wheel cleaner but wondered what other people had used and got good results with?

Thanks.

Best way to preserve the looks of the extremes is to polish them with decent products periodically. Autoglym super resin polish is quick and easy and will do the job ok. Once clean, keep them clean by washing regularly. The longer dirt sits on them, the harder it is to remove it. Brake dust and metal brake particles will bond to the clear coat paint on the wheels. Regular cleaning stops the dirt buildup becoming permanent.

I don’t rate specific alloy wheel cleaners as they are quite aggressive and I have seen their use cause excessive chemical corrosion on brake discs leading to early life replacement. Never needed to use them in 30 years of car care.

Also, if you find any slight stone chips on the spoke edges, touch them in with clear lacquer ASAP to stop moisture corroding the bare metal and causing white worm corrosion spreading under the paint.

It might also be a good idea to use some iron x type of cleaner prior to following BigEjit’s info.

Seal them before the winter with a ceramic product like GTechniq C5 Wheel armour:

I do mine every weekend with Mr Sheen.  It keeps a nice slippy gloss on them........🙂

I had my Cupra wheels (gloss black, diamond cut 19”) coated with C5 when less than 24 hours old - to be honest, I’ve been really disappointed - it was professionally applied, but has never been great at repelling brake dust, which quickly bonds to the surface.

I clean my car at least once per week, and use bilberry (I wish that I could get Dr Wack P21S in the uk at a price that isn’t ridiculous - amazing stuff). I’ve had much better results just sealing/waxing every 6 months.

On the subject of wheels, anyone know how I can match touch up paint colour?! I have a couple of stone chips and I need to touch them up.  18 inch wheels, any ideas please? Thanks.

If the colour is silver/ grey then there is unlikely to be a specific code relating to their actual colour.

You need to find an automotive paint supplier in your area for them to look at the wheels and mix you some paint to match.

Thank you. 🙂
