Near side front knocking over bumps

Featured Replies

My 54 plate Skoda 1.9 tdi estate has a solid knocking noise coming from the front nearside. I have had the anti roll bushes replaced and nearside spring and top mount. my mechanic has checked all steering and suspension components and can find no faults. any ideas please?

You don't mention drop links, these cars absolutely eat them for breakfast and low quality pattern replacements regularly fail within a year, many owners pay the small premium to have Meyle HD parts fitted as these last almost indefinitely.

Hi sepulchrave, many thanks for your reply. Are the drop links part of the MOT test? My mechanic who, passed the car back in April says that I have nothing to worry about and the car is fully roadworthy.

I'm not suggesting the car isn't road worthy, only that if you want to get rid of the irritating knocking then you should get the drop links changed.

I doubt the MOT would pick up on drop links unless they were seriously worn. It doesn't take much play in them to cause them to knock.

Meyle HD ones are better than the factory ones.
