2015 Octavia Estate 1.4 Elegance auto - safety spec

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm considering buying the car as per title and I've read that as standard it didn't have all the safety features of other trims. Is that correct? If so, is it a big deal, or to be avoided? It looks like a lovely vehicle and would otherwise hit the sweet spot for me of price and quality.

Also, are there any other known issues I should look for? For example is the auto transmission reliable? Is there everywhere I could download a service schedule to check with the dealer?

Thanks!

Welcome.

A Main Dealer or Skoda UK can tell you what Service, Warranty work and Service Campaign / recall actions have been done.

Servicing on the 4 year old car is not much, Oil & Filter changed annually or bi-annual,

Fixed of Variable Servicing,

but at 4 years that should have the Spark Plugs and Air Filter changed, maybe the 2nd time the pollen filter has been done.

The Brake fluid should have been changed at 3 years.

Free Wash & Vacuums, lots of looking and reporting and not much else really.

Full Main Dealer Servicing to Manufacturers Recmmendations is not much till 4 years.

So you need to see what has been done.

Sadly even 2015 DQ200 dsg's which have no service schedule can not be considered as bombproof, there are issues with some,

maybe theey are 97% reliable, but VW never own up to how many fail.

there is a service campaign 34h5 on some 2013-2015 and from then to now some TPI's on Clutches and Software.

Mainly great though, apart from if not.

This is an idea of Servicig, and these are 3-10 year fixed prices that some dealerships do,

Thank you. Car is for sale at a small indie dealer, not main Skoda. Would Skoda give me info?

I've been reading about the DQ200 transmission issues. Sounds like our was sorted in 2015, if so would this particular vehicle be ok?

Also, do you know about whatever there were safety equipment omissions in the Elegance?

Many thanks!

Should have been all sorted in 2015, sadly not though hense some have needed clutches replaced in the past year from 2015,16,17, & 18 cars.

Pity there is another issue in 2018/19 ones on 1.5TSI EVO engined cars.

Dont beleive everything you read even from me, check check and check again and have a warranty that covers the DSG.

You've written a lot on it!

I think it's all enough to put me off this particular vehicle. Shame, because otherwise it looks like a cracker.

Drjaking it would be a shame if you were put off a good car by one poster who rightly or wrongly tends to be a bit anti-Skoda.

Not really. The regular trims in ascending order go S, SE, Elegance, L&K. (There are also Greenline, Scout and VRS which are more specialised). So with the Elegance you get what you would get with S and SE plus telescopic front headlight washers. As standard you don't get the cornering front fog lights that you would get with the L&K. These are the only differences listed in the brochure under Safety and Security. There are some other safety type items listed under the heading of Technology which are standard on L&K but not Elegance: adaptive cruise control with front assistant, lane assist and park assist.

The 1.4 that you are looking at doesn't have this issue, and seems to be well-regarded by posters on here.

Apart from checking on the maintenance issues set out by RootToot, the main concern with this car would seem to be the DSG gearbox. Auto transmission of any type is always going to be more complicated than manual, and that may have cost implications further down the line. You are looking at a 4 year old car, and I would guess that any original faults with the DSG will have come to light by now.  It is worth checking that the transmission locks when it is in Park, as some posters are having a problem with that. Also you should beware of a random warning message saying always leave the car in position P. I have this on my 2015 car. It can be fixed by replacing the gear selector, but I am living with it as my car is out of warranty and so far it is not a big problem.

@OldBoyScout we know how good a Skoda can be. If someone comes here asking if any issues migh be of concern no point being like a salesperson or Auto express or AUTOCAR. I doubt if someone gets a bad DSG that you will put your hand in your pocket to help them out.

I am not anti skoda,  just anti Skoda Head in the sand. Anti dishonesty on how many of the 2,200 DQ200 a day they produce have issues.

Forearmed is forewarned on the DQ200 DSG's.

Failures and issues might be low in number,  But for those that have them out of warranty it is a big issue.

There are hundreds of thousands of cars that are problem free, it is a pity that Skoda , VW, Audi, SEAT make people jump through hoops when known faults rear their ugly head.

Get a warranty that is worth the paper it is written on.

I think you may be confusing ‘information overload’ as some sort of negativity.

It isn’t often that all you would get such comprehensive information when posting on any forum. If others did the same then I doubt there’d be any marques risk free.

The 1.4TSi is a good engine.

The DQ200 is not a good gearbox though, my experience is as follows.

2010 Golf 1.6TDi Faultless.

2011 Fabia 1.2TSi. Clutch judder at 2 years and 15k miles, needed new clutch pack.

2014 Octavia 1.6TDi, Clutch slip in 2nd and 4th, required new clutch pack at 29k miles. Gearbox dead at 32k miles required new mechatronic, clutchpack and flywheel. Also had two replacement gear selectors for error message.

2016 Yeti 1.2TSi, Clutch sllp in 2nd and 4th, required new clutch pack at 26k miles.

2016 Yeti 1.2TSI, Clutch slip in 2nd and 4th, lease company had it back prior to repair.

Make sure the theres no clutch slip or judder and ensure you have a bombproof warranty, The repairs to my Octavia would have been over £6000.

I don't know about the OP, but that would be enough to put me off.

But now we have forewarned anyone can go and face a Sales Executive and say, 'i want a 12 month warranty and it must cover the DSG'.

As for FMDSH. what does it show as been done or not as it is just a history, when were the Spark Plugs changed, and any warranty work done?

Drive the deal and dont let them away with saying, as scarce as hens teeth, and trust me i have never heard of any issues.

But which can be easily enabled with VCDS or OBD11

Thanks for all the replies. I think there's too many worries for me to go there - it's not a Skoda dealer, where you get a decent warranty on a used vehicle, and it's a long way from home so difficult to go back if one of these issues came up. I've decided to pour a bit more money into my 9y old Ford, and put off the big purchase for another year. I do really want a Skoda so I'll be back.
