I’ve got a 1.9d Felicia 1998 pickup. I can hear a lot of rattling and whining from the gearbox so it probably needs some attention. I’ve got a 1.3 mpi 1997 gearbox spare and I was wondering if it is the same? If I was to rebuild that gearbox then do a quick swap it would reduce down time a lot.

No, they are not the same. They have totally different gear ratios. See this guide.
