2015 Roomster brakes

Featured Replies

Hello all.

i bought a 2015 1200 Petrol Roomster, and overall quite happy with it.

i m at the point of replacing all brake pads and front disks. I started with replacing the rear pads thinking  this was the easiest.   But struggled to remove the Allen bolts securing the calliper, which I’ll be replacing with standard nut head bolts. Got them off, but now I’m finding it impossible to compress the calliper. So 1 are they any different to standard callipers, 2 is there another method to removing them and 3 is there anywhere I can find a guide as to how to compress them?

Hope someone an help.

I now assume the callipers wind out?

can anyone tell me which compressor I need right or left thread or both?

Okay, well if you have tried to force the rear pistons back in without also rewinding them, you might just have messed things up - depending on the force/method you used.

So, trot along to your local Machinemart and buy a calliper rewind tool, if no Machinemart nearby try Screwfix or Halfords.

The fixings that retain the rear calliper are usually just a hex headed bolt with thread lock coating, screwed into a guide pin that is free to rotate so needs held with a slim spanner on its flats, are you sure that it is not the calliper mounting bracket that you are trying to remove along with the calliper.

Your living on the edge a bit with doing this work on this car if you have not got hold of a workshop manual to assist - are you not?

Edit:- only right handed rewind tool needed.

Another Edit:- I seem to remember that the "Allen headed bolts" are spline/multi spline or Torx, so using an Allen key on them will probably not work too well as they will be quite tight and quite rusty - best left alone.

Hi, Thanks for the comments.

First time I’ve come across winding callipers.  I realised something was different so only gentle force used to test.
I’ve sent away for a full rewind kit which should do the job, always managed without spreaders till now but ordered as well.

The front callipers are held on with special Allen head bolts set inside plastic covers to prevent corrosion, nice and clean and removed fairly easily, (probably had pads replaced before).

The rear callipers are definitely held on with standard Allen Bolts open to the elements, not a good idea.  They were corroded very tight and fingers crossed, they reluctantly unscrewed, hence the idea to replace with hex bolt and lock washers.

Yes I would have bought a manual ( I did search for one and Instructions ) , unusually, couldn’t find anything on the net relating to this model. Maybe other models have similar systems?   So not the first time I’ve had to soldier on.

Now I’m wondering if I should test my internet skills and record and upload the rest of the repairs to YouTube?  Might help someone else.
