Picking up Karoq on Friday

Picking up my Meteor  Grey Sportline 2.0tsi  Karoq on Friday.

Virtual cockpit               apparently you get 1 year free connectivity   is it any good?

I love the gadgets and tech

The RTTI is the best part.

Lovely choice of model/spec,

Its worth asking them to include you a bottle of genuine topup oil, they (VAG) have been very clever with these new engines, the oil they filled it with has a green dye in it and if you topup with the wrong one and then need warranty work in the future (like a rebuild like the 1.8 TSi piston ring situation needed), they may void it or wriggle because the dye might have changed or contain other type of oil.

Don't think you will be to overawed with the connectivity.

@delitfol

The oil is VW 508  so 0w 20 FS IV.  If not using it voids a warranty then that will be down to many main dealerships employees that do not know their oils

and supply or use VW 504.

Is the Green Dye in the Factory fill oil,

or all VW508 00 spec oil from Oil Producers globally?   VW Group can not require anyone to use Castrol / Quantum or anyones oil just that the oil is to their spec

if you want a valid warranty, as with other fluids / consumables.

VW Group are not an Oil Producer.

What VW Group have been smart with is using VW508 / 509to get WLTP / RDE certification and that oil in vehicles engines incase tested when arriving in other countries so that the WLTP / RDE or RDE2 results might be replicated. ie. Low emissions with VW508 / 509 and maybe the RDE test economy results.

If an owner does not want to do Variable / Flexible services and wants to use VW502 00 at service time that will not void a warranty.

Hey, none of those engine outputs listed above are the 2019 2.0 TSi 190PS engine which has a different valve layout for economy, the green dye is apparently in factory and the specific 508.00 castrol bottles supplied by dealers, others will likely not have this dye in and highlight a possible room for movement when it comes to warranty work.  The same as if you remap a 2018 onwards model of the VAG Range, it highlights the marker hidden in the ECU that sensors have past their limits and will crop up if you needed warranty work when they export the logs and send to Skoda for analysis before they gain approval for payment.

The tuning boxes are also picked up in the same way, the ECU notices that sensors are reading away from the normal, and adds the marker, there is a TPI out there for this where dealers will look for evidence of tampering to the engine connector/harness as an extra way of discovering whether the tuning unit was removed before the vehicle came in for warranty work.

I am taking no risks and any topups are only coming from dealers now, especially after having a TSi use around 1L of oil in 200 miles previously (OK it was a 1.8 but SKoda refused to pay for new piston rings)

VW Group can not and do not specify CASTROL.   They can recommend it, and do supply 'freebies' as marketing for CASTROL.

The law is what allows room for movement, and does not allow restrictive practices in a free market.

The T&C's in the Warranty are very clear on Non Factory Approved Harware or Engine Management.

That covers remaps.

VW Group refused to pay for 1.8/2.0 & 1.2 & 1.4 TSI's that had FMDSH's and the correct oil used.

If people let them away with that. Many never and had VW Group pay up.

Fundamental design, manufacturing, component / material failings was down to them not people using other than CASTROL / Quantum oil if they were using VW502 /  or VW 504 /507.

Superb answer, ask them for a genuine bottle and dont worry about warranty work :)

Green dye in the oil!?

I very much doubt it. What is the source of this 'internet' information?

The genuine VW 508.00 1.5l bottles are not Castrol branded. Any Castrol branded containers bought in a UK main dealer are the same as those that can be bought at many other outlets.

There is no way Skoda UK would be able to defend the rejection of a genuine warranty claim over the presence of a mythical dye in the engine oil.

The VAG 508.00 oil in the grey plastic bottle doesn't have any green dye in it as far as I can see, I remember the Duckhams 20W-50 motor oil and that was unmistakably green

Just went checked my MY20 kodiaq 2.0tsi 190 and there is nothing regarding the use of green dyed Castrol engine oil anywhere I can see (oil cap does have Castrol recommended on it right enough, likely marketing agreement with skoda) .

This is what the owners manual says

Thought the tsi's had 508 00 in them from the factory? Handbook makes it sound like an alternative for topping up only.

  • 3 weeks later...

So long as the oil you use meets the VW long life spec then your warranty cannot be refused. I use Halfords own brand VW long life and its fine.

On other news, I blew up a turbo on a leon a few years ago that had been remapped and it was still replaced free under warranty. Just don't irritate your retailer and they will look after you.

How would they know if  the oil in it were Green orange or red when used it turns black anyway😀

First I've ever heard that. Who / where is your source of information?  It's not via The White House press office or Fox News by any chance?

skoda1982 - never thought of that.  brilliant reply.
