Octavia vRS TDI questions

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Firstly, apologises if this has come up numerous of times before.

I am looking at purchasing a Octavia VRS TDI. I moved away from the Skoda brand a year or so back (used to have a Fabia VRS petrol)

Is there any major faults with the Octy VRS TDI? >2014 onwards?

Is the gearbox as reliable as my old Fabia VRS petrol?

I travel around 80 miles per day, this is why I was looking for the TDI version.

any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

Nothing too major fault wise but if you spend long enough on here you may get DSG paranoia like had for a week :D  (assuming you want DSG?) If you are looking then check if its had the water pump done

While i have gone TSI rather than TDI i dont think you will go wrong either way

Yes it would be the DSG box. Are they a sealed unit or do they need to be serviced?

there's a periodic oil change needed for them I believe.

I've a manual vrs tdi and I love it. Pulls in any gear, gives great mpg (last fill up was calculated at 54.5mpg) and can give a smile when required by pressing the fun pedal :tongueout:

Don't know if you've considered a manual, but if you get a car registered before April 2017, the car tax is currently £30!!! DSG 'boxes are higher (Category D rate)

DSG boxes need an oil change and they are 60k or 6 years i think (may be 5)

no problems with the manual gearbox i have a 2015 manual, its mapped and has a few extra bits and bobs engine wise, pulls like a train, returns 50mpg if im conservative. I was doing around 100 miles round trip to work with no issues at all in 2 years of ownership, ave mpg was 45 long term but i drive like a 'hoon' most of the time..

I do need to top up the oil every other month but that due to upgrades, the bigger seems to turbo burns a little more oil. I did a full belt and pump kit change it as soon as i bought it which stops any chance of a water pump failure i think is a common problem.

I've a vrs TDI in estate form and absolutely love it. It's manual and as others have said pulls in every gear once rolling. I really want to DTUK it but my insurance would probably sky rocket 😂

Mine's 4yrs old next week and I've had it since new and at 50k all is good. The only thing it's had are new shock absorbers as I believe the originals were made out of cheese/common issue across VAG resulting in an MOT failure last week🤦🏻‍♂️

As said above the 2014/2015 TDis have an issue with early water pump failures. So make sure the water pump and cambelt have recently been changed. If not, budget an extra £500 (Skoda dealer fixed price) to get them done.

My 2014 is at 90k, and had the water pump problem. Only other thing was clips coming off the under tray, and passenger door seals changed as they weren't letting water out properly.

Mine is lowered and has been for about 40k miles and shocks have been ok.

Thanks All, so it looks like a common issue is the water pump..

And then the normal DSG servicing etc..

If you go for a 2014 registered car, there were several problems with the boost pressure sensor/connector (but these were quick to fail & easy to repair so should have already been done if it was the affected batch of parts).

Only other reoccuring issue is the water pump.

As with all Octavias (especially the older ones) you should properly drive the car you intend to buy to make sure it doesn't experience the "Cabin Boom" issue from the tailgate.

I'm not regularly following the thread but I believe it is still alive & kicking.

Very nice.

I would have loved a red one (my Mk1 was red) so you have done well

I do like the red ones, you don't see many of them.
