Unknown grinding noise from wheel.

Featured Replies

my octavia vrs has a grinding noise , but it is not the brake discs or pads , has anyone got any ideas please

Is it rotational - does it only occur when rolling?

Is it the same when driving, coasting, on overrun?

Does it change in tone if you gently apply the handbrake when rolling?

Is it in any particular gear?

What car is it - model, year, engine, gearbox?

How do you know it's not the discs or pads?

From your description, this puts it as being drivetrain related.  If it's a manual, does it change if you dip the clutch?

Does it change on cornering?

Did the garage do a visual inspection, or a strip down?  Could be a foreign object in a calliper carrier or rubbing backplate.  Possibly driveshaft or wheel bearing, but the garage should have been able to check these.  It's a bit of a guessing game for us really as it could be any one of a number of things.

Why is this thread called "sandra greaves"?

Curious too, but then I thought Sandra Greaves was quite a nice name, so what the heck!

Perhaps Sandra has lost someone and is sad and needed to share by getting it off her chest.:tongueout:

Or perhaps the new member sanlee has come here for help, is totally new to forums and how they work and was unsure as to the etiquette of thread titles?

I'm sure a MOD could move it to the correct forum and change the title.

Sanlee, Welcome to the forum, I'm sure someone in the Mk1 section will help.

  • john999boy changed the title to Unknown grinding noise from wheel.

All now sorted @sanlee with regards to an appropriate title and being in the correct location.

You'll soon get the hand of what to do on here!

My first instinct if its wheel speed related rather than engine is ABS sensor rings.

Pretty common tbf..
