Thanks. My experience with button cells tells me that there can be a huge difference between no-names and branded batteries. I have also seen significant differences in performance between branded types.

 

The battery in my 'main' key fob failed at 1yr11m while the battery in my 'spare', which is only rarely used, is still operating at 2yr1m (Panasonics).

Mine does that if I am pressing the clutch down at the same time as I press the button. If I am not pressing the clutch down, it simply switches on the ignition; when I want to start the car, I press the clutch down and press the starter button again.

Same with dsg. If you have your foot on brake it starts. If you just want ignition on to say alter settings leave footbridge off and ignition comes on without it starting.

Just had my 2018 Karoq key fob battery die after only 2 years.  Luckily I was at home and just getting something out of the boot.  Car unlocked OK but wouldn't lock.  I used one of my spare keys to lock the car and then changed the CR2025 battery in the non-working fob.  The failed 3V CR2025 battery read 2.7V on a meter.  It was a Panasonic brand (Made in Indonesia !).  I put in a new Varta one (3.2V) and re-synced it with the car as described in the user manual (no, the car alarm didn't sound as described in the manual when I did this).  Key fob is now working again (and now there are 2 spare NEW Varta CR2025 batteries in the glove box !).

 

As an aside, I started having a problem with my 13 year old Mazda 6 before I sold it when the fob would only unlock the car if a new battery (3.2V) was in the fob.  If the voltage dropped to 3.0-3.1V it stopped working.  Very annoying.  Strangely it only started behaving this way after 12 years of trouble-free motoring.

After I'd replaced the battery in my key-fob, I didn't knowingly carry out any sort of re-syncing procedure - it just worked straightaway.

As I understand, re-synchronizing is required if you have repeatedly activated the keyfob out of range from the car (keyfob battery state of charge depending as well).

After not even one year battery was for replacement,before message on display, this message came after couple a days with low battery, so the key fob that is used the most needs 2 changes a year to be reliable:dull:

Sorry if this has already been asked but today after getting back to the car (2019 Octavia) the key fob failed to unlock the car.  The light on the fob didn't illuminate at all so I opened the car door using the key but, on doing so, the alarm sounded.  Is that what you would expect? 

 

Touching the key against the start button didn't have any effect.  Fortunately I had spare batteries in the car and a replacement worked fine.  Oddly, once I got home I retried the failed battery and it worked perfectly!!

We had both key fobs replaced under warranty in October 2019 on our Jan 2018 Karoq with KESSY when both failed despite the AA Patrolman testing both batteries and declaring them with adequate voltage. Yes the alarm goes off when the manual back up key is used to open the car. The AA guy took about 5 minutes to start the car holding the defective fob against the stop/start button before the chip in the key was recognised by the car which silenced the blaring alarm. We drove straight to the local dealer while the engine was running on a Saturday and left the car with them to fix. Took 2 weeks for the new keys to arrive and 30 minutes coding required at the dealers with the new keys all F.O.C.

Do you know if you got the new version of key that turns itself off after a period of inacivity?

Not sure on that feature but I would imagine the new fobs match Model year 20 Karoq's built from summer 2019 (August updates after summer factory closure).

That feature is on key fob of octavia IV. Yes, if you put old battery back maybe it will work couple of days but for sure if red led on key fob is not indicating, battery is for change regardless if no message on the dash. 

got my brand new sportline 11 months ago, and already batteries died without any warning in one of my keyfobs

When you dig the battery out, can you check what brand it is, please?

Mine OEM was Panasonic but Duracell that I installed also can't last a year, so in future the most used key fob will go on 6month replacement schedule. 

Last I did also in combination with some design upgrade from aliexpress:

My OEM battery was also Panasonic, but it lasted 1yr 11mths. I had formed the impression that the key was constantly sending out a signal, and battery life was dependent, more or less, on the quality of the battery. I guess it isn't unreasonable to suppose that this can be also affected by the number of times the buttons are operated on the battery in addition. My spare, rarely-used key is still OK after a further 3 months (Panasonic).

I only have standard kessy (touch door handle to unlock/lock) so I guess I have regular key

 

Just put CR2032 into both keys - it's 40% bigger in capacity compared to CR2025 that comes standard, so I hope it will last longer than 11 months..

The motion sensing key switches off after it is left stationary for 15 mins, until it moves again, hence it is not transmitting all the time for the car to receive when nearby.

All MY20 cars and later should have this and the battery will last much longer. It also removes the risk of an amplifier put next to your house and receiver/transmitter at the car some distance away allowing entry and driving off without the key.

 

It is important to put the key away when you come into the house so it is stationary, and not keep it in your pocket at home for this reason, otherwise it will only go off whilst you are asleep.

The door handle is the same whichever key you have, and in use you will not notice any difference.

battery is thicker compared to CR2025 so it's not seated properly (wants to pop out) - you just have to press the key cover with a little bit more force and it will close properly

The ‘no warning’ phenomena struck me today, drove 15 miles to the market, tried to lock, nothing, checked all doors were closed and ignition off and I just knew..........thought I might have got 2 years rather than just 20 months.

 

4 new Duracell 2025’s sitting in the kitchen table drawer didn’t go down well with the good lady.

 

No worries though, the secret lock and the emergency start-up option worked well.

You Know, if only Skoda were to modify the design by adding a sliding on off switch to the key, things would be a whole lot simpler and much less stressful.

My missus likes our Karoq, but hates the auto locking and unlocking system. It frustrates the hell out of her and boy do i get ear aches when the passengers door refuses to open because of Kessie.

I miss the sensors on rear doors.
