Duxford - the plan

Featured Replies

I don't want to hijack the meet, but as it's only 5 days away I thought it would be best to sift through the posts so that there would be a program that eveybody agrees on as it is all over 3 threads at the moment. feel free to edit or add any information as it comes up of if I have got it wrong. The way i see it at the moment is this:

9- 10 - The McDoalds on the other side of the M11 to Duxford, and make our way to the museum at about 9.45

10 - 11 - admire cars and photo's of Dennis in front of a plane (he might autograph them if you are lucky!)

11 - ? - museum

and after that who knows, a drive, the pub(soft drinks only! eg budweiser), food or all go our seperate ways.

Sounds about right. See you on Sunday.

MaccyDs at 9ish for me I reckon. I'm pootling over from Devon at a leisurely pace and should be there around 9. I'll be looking for some brekky by then too, but may reserve my tastes by buying something from the services en route. :D:rolleyes:

I'm going to *try* and get to MDs around 9ish too. Depends on traffic and stuff though :)

9 ish sounds good to me :)

I'll probably be looking closer to 10, so will more than likely meet you all at Duxford.

By the time wife and sprogs are ready, I'll be lucky to get to Duxford by 10, looking nearer 11 in reality.

Denis autographing planes - that will be an interesting sight! ;):D

Ditto - more likely to meet at Duxford between 10 and 11.

i can imagine the headlines "Grumpy old man arrested for vandalising valuable aircraft quoted as saying grumpy.gif "

well as long as we don't get the "during the war...." speeches and he doesn't ook too much like uncle Albert then all's well.

Well, if I need any help sleeping after the long drive, I'll just listen to him for a while. :D (sorry, Denis :o)

BUT, as I'm there to go to a war museum and Denis can put extra audio input into what I'm actually able to see with my own eyes, then it can't be a bad thing. I imagine the digital camera is going to get a good hammering on the day too.

This makes me smile. I don't think Denis fought in the war. :D

My wife gets confused about dates of major world conflicts, national service etc etc. My dad plays on it and as far as she's concerned he's seen everything from Dunkirk to Iraq with a tour in 'Nam along the way.

He's 64. :rofl2:

Psssst, don't tell him i said this but..

How about you try to get him to Autograph the SR-71 with a black marker?

I have posted an aerial picture of Duxford in the Gallery here. The comments are self-explanatory except that the red arrow does NOT relate to the description of Hangar 1 - it's indicating where we could meet if the car park is not flooded! You will see that the Museum is literally alongside the M11.

Exhibits are all inside the Hangars and the airfield area - so it will not be possible to take photos of me in front of the Shackleton while we are waiting to go in as a group. However should anyone wish to buy me a milkshake (large, vanilla, to take away) I could be available for a photo in front of my 4X4 outside McD's between 0900ish and 0945........ :D

You've got your 'I'm rising above all this' face on again Denis. :D

I thought he looked more like a muppet.

Or is that just the avatar?

(I'll get you the first m/shake, Denis.....) :D

Didn't you go to school with Shackleton? Or am I getting him confused with Columbus?

Denis, I look forward to seeing your happy smiley face again :D

I'll buy you a milkshake, think of it as my contribution to Help The Aged :D

Ouch

Shall we bring you pieces of engine, Jon, as our contribution towards "help rebuild the car?" ;)

(Thinking I'll need to come along in disguise at this rate......)

You see there is method in my madness.

It's getting closer and closer to meeting the Gandalf of Briskoda so I'm backing off with the wee wee taking for two reasons.

1) He's probably bigger than me.

2) With all that cold war training his hands will no doubt be registered with the relevant authorities as 'lethal weapons'.

You have all been warned.

Gandalf of Briskoda

:( - I found a nice big jpeg of the SR71 at Duxford and I was going to write along it "Denis was 'ere" - but my bloody work PC uses explorer to view photos, and there's no damn photo editing software here... frustrated at every turn. :D

PS: I'll mail the pic to anyone wanting to do this for me...

So calling him Gandalf isn't extracting the wee wee in any way at all then? :D
