VRS Hatchback - Quick Question

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Can anyone confirm that a standard size tumble dryer/ washing machine with fit in the boot of a MK3 Octavia hatch without folding the rear seats down?

Am I hoping for too much?

Cheers,

Rich

What are the dimensions and weight of the washer/dryer?

85cm high, 60x60cm base. I am not worried about the weight - not much mass in a dryer!

Thanks

Unless it's one of this diddy bench top ones they'll all be 600 wide, roughly 600 deep and 850 or 900 high. Hint: they all are 😉

Doubt it will fit, don't think you'll have enough depth (sorry I meant height from boot floor to underside of tailgate) , it will be fairly close though. Are you hauling for a long way, maybe just tie the tailgate down, it won't be open by much.

It'll easily fit with the seats down, but without, I think you may struggle.

Unless you're ok with lashing the boot lid down on top of it off course.

I think it's about 1100mm max width of the opening, so can't see why you wouldn't have the footprint, but it's the height you'll struggle with.

You will need  the rear seats down as the Hatch wont shut. I dropped the seats in mine and got a standard size fridge/freezer in mine .

Lay it down on it's back?

That's how I got a full size washing machine home in an Audi S3 hatch - which has a much smaller boot/hatch than an Octavia.

With the seats up?  As per the OP?

Unfortunately not

Thanks for all the info, sounds like I will be driving home with the hatch roped down. I think I had probably better avoid the motorway!

And plenty of padded protection if the washer comes close to touching the rear screen...   And you'll get warning bongs as soon as you start driving, which will become constant in a minute or so. And you can't disable the sound.

Isn't there a risk of exhaust fumes getting sucked in through a partially open boot lid?

Not if you're moving.

If you're at a standstill and the wind is in the wrong direction, yes. However not any much from being a queue of traffic with your windows open really.

When you're moving you create an area of low pressure in the wake of the car.  You'd need to have the pressure in the car to be less than this to force air into the car, which won't happen.
