Which type of clutch/Flywheel

Featured Replies

Had an issue with my Clutch/Flywheel a few months ago. Replaced both and the noise in the following video is gone and is a lot smoother then it was.

Thank you for that. Yes I have a similiar noise to that, my car pretty much reacts like yours in the video, I am just concerned about the noise coming from the rear of the car. If the noise at the rear is also a symptom of the DMF then thats great but I am reluctant at present to change the DMF in case there is an uneconomical bill due for whatever the issue is with the rear noise.

If the noise disappears when you dip the clutch then surely it's the DMF? All the rest of the transmission keeps turning so would keep making a noise?

I would imagine so but am reluctant to have the flywheel/clutch changed at present just in case, but I feel I need to decide soon as the flywheel I feel is going quickly.

If the deep rumbling noise at the rear of the car is associated to the flywheel, and the flywheel is just sending vibrations to the rear then fantastic, I will go ahead with the flywheel. My concern though is that I fork out for the flywheel & clutch replacement and that doesn't solve the problem and I end up needing a new rear diff or something as well. It just wouldn't be worth it and I cannot afford it anyway.

Thinking as I write this, the original specialist I took the car to who diagnosed the flywheel did mention something about the vibrations from the flywheel possibly causing the noise & vibrations at the rear.

If it's not the DMF then how would dipping the clutch alter any vibration and noise behaviour at the rear diff? I ask this in pure ignorance 🙂

Hey folks, hope y'all are well and you survived the BS zombie apocalypse we've been subjected to over the last few years 😁

Just an update.....

I still have the car, what can I say? I love it 🤣👍

It is currently (and finally) getting the clutch and DMF replaced 😁 I mentioned the grumbling noise from the back and the garage will investigate it properly when they're working on it.

Also have a leaking fuel cooler (which I didn't know was on the car 🤣) and a broken spring which is being done. Lot of work in the garage. The car has passed 200k miles and will hopefully give me another 200k 😁👌

Will let you know about grumble noise 👍

Guibo coupling.

Well..... it came back from the garage with a new clutch and flywheel and a pocket/wallet a lot lighter 🥴

The spring was replaced and the leaking fuel was sorted.

It drives better but the rumbling noise is still present at the back, very loud at speeds of around 50,60,70 in 5th and 6th gears. The mechanic suggested its the haldex unit and that it wouldn't be worth doing 😬

🙁
