Converting Karoq SE-L with space saver spare wheel to full-size spare wheel

Featured Replies

Hi Mark

i found  a threaded plastic support that does the job

the part numbers for the supports are all the same except for the suffix letter

3G0 803 899 B Is approx 100mm short

hwever 3G0 803 899 A. Is just right.
I obtained mine from a Touran 5 seater 2008 ish.   Remove the end cap with the part no on.   Pop in the

3G5 863 470 support pad and it comes to correct level.

using the part no 3G0 803 899 A in eBay, they are readily available from a VW Passat for about £15.

job is now complete.  I’ll pop up some pics when I’ve learnt how to do it.

Tomorrow is a different problem . Changing cambelt on a Ford Kuga TDCI.

cheers

Kelwyn

Hi Ive just bought a 2023 karoq Sportline, which has standard seats, and no variable floor, so theres a lip when loading which can be a pain,, will this kit raise the boot floor?,  and is it  sort of a good fit/ looks like its supposed to be there? if it does i was going to buy a wheel separately.

Thanks

I think it depends whether you have a 4x2 or 4x4 as the floor plan below the boot is shallower on the 4x4 to accommodate the Haldex unit.

I have bought the spacesaver wheel kit for my 2022 Sportline 4x4 which includes a new boot floor and raises the level as it sits on the wheel and moulded compartments around the wheel for the jack etc.

I'm away at the moment without my Karoq so I'll try to remember to post a couple of photos next week.

If you have a Karoq 4WD rather than a Karoq 2WD, you might find that there's less height for the spare wheel in the spare wheel well due to the extra space that the Karoq 4WD needs for its four wheel drive system. This point needs confirming by someone with a Karoq 4WD, but if there is less height a full size wheel might not fit so you might be limited to a 125/70R18 space saver although it might be better to the 125/70R18 for a 135/80R18 so that the outside of the space saver tyre is close to the outside diameter of the full size tyres on the Karoq 4WD.

Outside diameter of Karoq 4WD tyres

225/60R16 676.4mm

225/55R17 679.3mm

225/50R18 682.2mm

225/45R19 685.1mm

Outside diameter of two space saver tyres

125/70R18 632.2mm (7.1% smaller than the average Karoq 4WD tyre size)

135/80R18 673.2mm (1.1% smaller than the average Karoq 4WD tyre size))

The average outside diameter of the four standard Karoq 4WD tyres (225/60R16, 225/55R17, 225/50R18, 225/45R19) is 680.75mm, ie. (676.4+679.3+682.2+685.1)/4 = 680.75mm. Therefore, 125/70R18 has an outside diameter about 7.1% smaller than the average Karoq 4WD tyre size, and 135/80R18 has an outside diameter about 1.1% smaller than the average Karoq 4WD tyre size, ie. the 135/80R18 space saver tyre is a much better match to full-size Karoq 4WD tyre sizes than 125/70R18.

As you can see from the chart below, both 125/70R18 and 135/80R18 can be fitted to the 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 steel space saver rim. 3.5 is highlighted in bold because that is the standard rim width for both these tyre sizes. Camskill are listing both the 125/70R18 and 135/80R18 space saver tyres.

Just checking.  Has anyone acquired a 135/80R18 space saver tyre  listed on Camskill ,or found elsewhere, and if so, did it fit readily into the 4x4 spare tyre kit and lower boot of the Karoq? I'm interested as I definitely need a spare, and will just have to 'suck-it-up' that a full size isn't going to fit neatly.  Hey ho.

I also found this wheel https://www.amazon.co.uk/Space-Saver-Spare-Wheel-onwards/dp/B0BZYRR7J7  from Road Hero.  Again, has anyone experience of Road Hero items regarding quality, etc.?

I have recently bought a 1.5 2WD Sportline Karoq. Separately, I bought a full size steel spare wheel. The wheel sits inches proud in the wheel well, as expected. Like the OP, I want to fit the kit which will “wrap around” the protruding part of the wheel to keep the boot floor level and tidy.

On enquiry, I have found from Škoda, the part number 57A093860A has been superseded by 57A093860C.

I can’t see this info on this thread, but thought it might be useful for anyone contemplating this modification to accommodate a full size spare wheel.

A great, informative thread.

The Karoq 2x4 uses the 57A093860B kit, not the 57A093860C kit which is for the Karoq 4x4...as shown below. However, it's possible to use the Karoq 4x4 kit in the Karoq 2x4's wheel well...but a longer mounting bolt will be required if using a full-size spare wheel.

Yes, I’m well aware of what part numbers are relative to which vehicle.

This thread is about a suitable kit that allows fitting a full size spare wheel to  2WD. That suitable kit is the 57A093860C.

Not sure what the point of your post is.

The mounting bolt supplied in the Karoq 4x4 kit is too short for use in the Karoq 2x4, if using a full-size spare wheel...so a longer mounting bolt is required.

For clarification for others, this part of your thread is wrong. Whilst it was designed for the 4WD Karoq, as found out by the OP and others, it can also be used on the 2WD Karoq, to accomodate a full size spare wheel below the carpeted section of the boot. ( as you have mentioned in the same post I have quoted a para  from).

I will check what bolt size I need when I have assembled the kit into my boot. Thanks for the part numbers.

The quote, "Only for Karoq 4x4 with basic boot floor and standard rear seats" is from Skoda.

Skoda don't sell the Karoq 4x4 kit for the Karoq 4x2 because it's not plug and play on that car. Hence, it only fits if you modify it such as using a longer wheel mounting bolt.

You cannot seem to let a post go by on this thread without commenting. This will be my last post,  57A093860C fits a 2WD Karoq.

Please do not respond.

Absolutely.

I'd thought about writing something but decided not to because it wasn't quite as polite as what you put.

Fitted the spare wheel kit 57093860C this morning. As mentioned by the OP, everything fitted perfectly taking about about 15 mins.

Anyone wanting a full size spare,  this is the kit you need.

A longer plastic screw will ensure the support plate touches the underside of the new floor mat, item G of the kit. I've left the existing floor, and the floor is really robust without the plastic screw/ support plate.

Clear instructions/diagrams come with the kit.

Wonder if anyone can help me here with a query (I know a tangent off topic - but closest!)

I'm putting a space saver spare wheel into my 2023 2 wheel drive karoq.

I've been supplied a 125/80R18 tyre - which is bigger than OE spec (125/70R18) - but actually a closer match to the circumference of the wheel it may have to temporarily replace one day. I was going to buy the official skoda boot foam / tool kit holder (https://skodapartsdirect.co.uk/product/skoda-karoq-2019-present-toolbox-foam/) - but I wonder if it will fit with this tyre or not?

Q: Can anyone confirm the maximum width available for a tyre with the OE Karoq boot foam in place?

Thanks

To find a 125/70R18 space saver tyre fitted to a 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 steel space saver rim online, you can use the 1K0601027AP OEM part number from the Karoq (although its also used on other cars such as Golf MK7, etc.) to search online (such as ebay) for much cheaper than new Skoda dealer prices. Often around £60. Many unused, old ones, some with signs of poor handling and storage, etc. are listed on ebay.

Make sure they have 125/70R18 tyres and not other sizes such as 125/60R18 which would be far too small. Also, many are listed incorrectly, as some are 16" even though you search for the correct OEM part number. Make sure they have a 5/112 and not 5/100, although if you confirm the OEM part number it won't be 5/100.

With the 2WD Karoq, the 125/70R18 space saver is fine. The 135/80R18 probably won't fit inside the Karoq 2WD foam, although it should fit inside the Karoq 4WD foam. The Karoq 4WD foam will fit a Karoq 2WD as well as a Karoq 4WD.

It's really only the 4WD Karoq that might be better off with the bigger 135/80R18 mainly due to its 4 wheel drive system. This is because it's probably not such a good idea to use a much smaller outside diameter tyre on one of the tyres.

Where are you going to put your full size wheel if you get a puncture, as you said it won't fit inside the Karoq 2WD foam?

This kind of tool should help you fit your road wheel. Make sure you start the first couple of threads by hand, so that you don't risk cross threading, just like you would with your wheel bolts.

Hello @Carlston

I like the idea of that tool for aligning the wheel holes to the hub when remounting!

However the ebay site lists 2 versions -- one with a 1.5mm thread and one with 1.25mm thread. Do you know which wheel bolts Skoda (KAROQ) uses?

Thanks in advance.

All the VAG Skodas with five wheel bolts (including the Karoq) use M14x1.5
