Missing oil cap

Featured Replies

It isn't the first time and won't be the last time a franchised Skoda main dealer fails to replace the oil filler cap.

Quite often they fill the engine with oil and then place the cap loose over the hole in anticipation of having to top-up, to prevent dust or debris falling in.

He or she then gets distracted and you drive off with the cap rattling around with only the proud engine cover and gravity holding it in.

I reckon across Skoda's dealer network it happens at least once a day.

I thought the OP's original post was a perfectly reasonable question about a filler cap that he thought, at the time, was lost.  If it's not something you're familiar with it's going to be a bit disconcerting.

The cap was found and is now firmly back in it's rightful, place, so it's a happy ending.  And I bet I know what the first thing Shorty's going to look at next time he lift's his bonnet up.

Gaz

I concur , topic and resultant chat entirely reasonable.

You might now be able to predict the kind of response you're likely to get when you come back here asking the community for help.

Did he ever find the 710 cap? :)

I took one of my previous Fabias to my Skoda dealer for a service a few years ago.  When I lifted under the bonnet a few days later, I noticed that the brake fluid cap was missing.  The dealer delivered a replacement to my house a few days later.  About 2 weeks later, the brake fluid cap appeared from under the sound deadening on the underside of the bonnet.  However, having got stuck there, it had damaged the scuttle when the bonnet was closed at some point.  Reported this to the dealer who replaced the scuttle and was 'persuaded' to replace the brake fluid so all was well, despite the hassle.  Luckily there seemed to be no damage from spilt brake fluid that I could see.  Obviously the mechanic had stuffed the cap under the sound deadening whilst he checked the brake fluid level (which wasn't supposed to be part of the service though) and forgot about it.  Easily done I suppose but annoying to say the least.

710 cap

Some 710 caps are only supposed to fit the correct way up.

When fitted the wrong way they break when you undo them.

Look at the symbol?

Thanks AG Falco
