Karoq fuel flap

Featured Replies

Help please anyone, my new Karoq is so good on fuel main reason being is I can’t open the flap to get any in. Pulled up at the pump and the thing refuses to open, car is not locked. After a tannoy announcement and three of us trying to get it open we had to drive away without fuel. I’m quite heavy handed so didn’t want to hit it too much, seems quite flimsy. Anyway at home I slid a credit card down the side whilst pressing the flap and bingo it opened , squirted some wd40 inside  and closed it up.Thought this had fixed it but no it won’t open again.Anyone know a fix or must I go to the dealer, so disappointing, thank you

The plastic lug / latch needs a trim with a sharp blade.........

Hopefully the dealer isn’t so far away that you’ll need to re-fuel! :whew:

If you give the fuel flap a sharp tap half way down it should open.

It is a well documented fault but the dealer I bought from suggested the sharp tap and for me it works every time.

I trimmed the edges marked in red......it cured my 'reluctant to open'  problem and also, if it sticks again, a little bit of gentle levering now pops the flap without doing any damage.......

Thank you Berisford!

For the first time today mine was reluctant to spring open though a finger nail at the edge prised it up. Home and some squirts with silicone on the latch and hinges seems to have fixed but a terrible design.

My 2 month old karoq booked in on the 22.01.2020 , the dealer knows the problem and is replacing the locking mechanism but retaining the door flap.  This morning I opened the flap at home with 5 or 6 thumps with my closed hand before driving to the garage to fill up. We will see if they can cure the problem. Why Skoda are sending out MY20 cars with this known problem is beyond me.

All good now with the fuel flap, it opens with reasonable pressure provided it is applied in the correct spot, directly on the locking point. Dealer says they have changed the mechanism but not the flap. The new, looks dimensionally the same as the old so not sure what has changed in the design. The dealer service department kept me informed of progress, did it as agreed and on  time so that was a suprise for me.

On my previous Superb, after the flap jammed closed one day when empty I cut away a little piece of plastic on the cover side of the “lock mechanism”.

Slept happily ever after.

Sticky flap solenoids are a well known VAG problem.
